Montreal F1 - anybody going?

Post by Grillage »

I think my brother and I are going to get my dad tickets for his 70th.

Anyone have advice on where to stay, what tickets to get, anything I need to see while there?

I went for ~6 years straight a few years ago and met up with Marc up there. I really liked grandstand 11 or 12 down by turns 1-3, although it's a LONG walk from the train to get to the seats (like possibly the longest distance grandstand from the train). However, it's a quick walk to the podium after the race to watch the trophy presentation, and you get to walk by parc ferme on the way back to the train.

It's an awesome time. I'm thinking of going with a friend this year, too. I guess I should decide whether I'm going.

What Berserker says. Aim for seats in or near Senna.

I live in Montreal and rarely go to the race anymore. But it sure is fun to be in the city on that weekend!
Cheers, Brady

I think I'm going to look for seats in grandstand 12 or 24. Seems like the best mix of actual views and screen visibility to see what's going on elsewhere.

12 is in the Senna Turn and 24 is in the hairpin turn.

Anyone been in either and have a preference?

I'd love to see you guys there!

And not only did I meet up with Marc every year up there, I also met up with Brady on Friday night. Good times. Well, good times all except the full evening at Brady's dyno getting Marc's car ready for a track event the following week. It's brutal watching someone else tune his car and only having the neighbor guard dog and a box of cheez-its to entertain yourself when you don't find dyno tuning too interesting.

I've only ever sat in 11 or 12. I can say, DON'T get general admission. You'll be restricted to what parts of the track you can walk to, and the only places to sit are on straightaways without video board views. There is one corner you can sit in, and we did for qualifying, but on the day of the race, that area was super crowded, and the organizers had put up black netting (like at the tennis court) which blocked the view of the video board, and gave a 5 ft. high window to look through to see cars go by.

Not to thread jack, but Watkins was just repaved and it got everyone around here hoping and wishing they would bring F1 back.

Well we can dream anyway...

I ended up getting tickets in GS 12 Section 5 - in VV

From what I can gather, that will have a view of the start/finsh line and the Senna turn. Also good view of the big screen.

Also, my dad is bringing one of his oldest friends who has a huge love of racing because he was a driver for many years. He won his class at Le Mans in 1984 in a rotary Mazda engine Lola but drove Porsche's mostly. Super nice guy who I've known all of my 41 years. Hopefully he can see some old friends and get us places we otherwise wouldn't be able to go!
