Hi, Fellas I just picked up a 2000 a6 4.2 with a bad trans. I intend to 6spd swap the car. I've been poking around for about a week looking for a comprehensive diy, but haven't found a real good guide. I need to know which flywheel clutch combo will work, as well as if the ecu needs a flash or just soft coding adjusted with vagcom. Also looking at advice on which trans to use, I have access to an S4 01E as well as a 3.0 01E FYF code. I'm leaning towards the FYF I've heard it has the flexible main shaft and wide first. Any insight would be helpful...if anyone has pinouts for reverse lock out, clutch and brake switches that would be helpful too. Thanks for any and all insight.
b5 S4 01E is wide first as well. I believe the ECU can be recoded for manual trans using vagcom in this generation which is pretty handy. Years ago I found some threads on another forum discussing it while researching for my own planned swap (manual into a 4.2 Allroad).
I'm not positive but I *think* a b5S4 clutch and flywheel may work but someone please check me on that. Otherwise I think it may require importing a flywheel from europe.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I asked Scotty at Advanced Automotion for a quote to 6-sp swap an Allroad with a junk auto trans, that's what he replied. I was this_close to buying one to swap for a cheap family wagon, but didn't. Because 2.7t.

I've been slowly working on this swap in my s6, I ended up going with the jhm flywheel kit which uses an aluminum flywheel( unknowing to me was made by 034) designed to use a stock rs4 pressure plate. The rs4 engine is rated at 340hp same as my engine so should have a nice stock feel and hold fine, the kit costs 1k though. I had the ECU recoded to euro 6spd and then you still have to go in with the vcds and change a bunch of setting, there is a link I had found the spells most everything out,http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/416298-Recoded-ABS-module-for-manual-trans-now-get-quot-incorrectly-coded-quot-fault
I will try and find the other link I used for the wiring, though still haven't been able to get the neutral switch working for whatever reason. But we did jump the starter and it fired up and moves so just a little tweaking left Hope this helps

Thank you, I'm picking up that clutch kit used for $245, there was no 6spd sedan. I'm not sure how diffrent the s6 and a6 4.2 are...I'll have to dig a little deeper into that. It seems you can just leave the tcu and all its junk plugged in.
From the research I did at the time the best option I found to use stock components was a b5 2.7 fw with 3mm machined off the friction surface and the pins modified and then a stock b6 rs4 pp and disc. I had found this info in a couple places. I just decided in the long run I wanted new parts vs sinking money into a used dual mass fw. You will need to use a 2.7 trans spacer and remove some material from it for one of the starter bolts to fit, Hope this helps. And if u find a better description for wiring in the neutral safety switch post it up please.
