Julian's '91 200 20vt
Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Ya it's the new windshield from the safelite.. wow mine are waay higher. I can't do anything unless I put the read hood spacers in again. The car was running cooler than normal on the left coolant gauge. It would cool down to halfway between the bottom and first 1/4 line when cruising for awhile in 60F weather. Pretty sudden actually. I took the spacers out and it's normal again but now the wipers are back up at their retarded area.
Huge news! After putting in the final motor mount, my catch can residue has cut to like an 1/16 of its old collection amount! I have no idea what's changed besides the pass side motor mount. And dammit, my radiator no longer leaks! Lol whatever I guess.

Your engine was sagging on the side with the bad mount. The pickup for the block breather is on the same side. Makes sense.
You should be able to adjust them down a little, no?

Ya I can adjust the wiper arms but they are exactly one notch above where they were when the hood crushed them

Well, you need to realize that there are no "notches." That's what was getting me at first too... don't worry. The wiper shafts are steel splines and the wiper arms are aluminum. When the wiper arms are first applied, they don't have any "splines" in them. They are pressed into the metal by the wiper shaft. The trick to getting them to go exactly where you want them is to use a dremel and grind down the grooves on the inside of the wiper arms until it is relatively smooth. Then just place them wherever you like on the wiper arm shafts and tighten the shit out of them. Problem solved!
If you read my avant thread this past week you would have seen that

Hello 7.999k RPM's
I need to check the log from yesterday but I always felt that first gear wanted to keep going basically. Very fun with the aluminum flywheel. I think I used the extra 600 rpm's a couple times. Pre-inspection day!

Chris, I know that prolonged use over 8500 is discouraged, but what about occasional use of 82 or 8300? First and second gear are just so fun without the flywheel effect!

I'd say throw some valve springs in there before you try more than 8. It's addicting though isn't it?

Lol... NO! It's not even fun
But now at least I have a reason to get the supertech springs!
Wow I just checked my logs and I didn't even exceed the stock limiter lol. I'm an idiot...

Once you hit 6500 natural tendency is to pull out... I rarely hit the rev limiter on the 4k @7800. It just keeps going and going... 07k with 9000+is going to be interesting lol

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Geez.. pulling out and banging? Some people think with as much time and money as I spend on/with my audis, that they should be giving me sexual favors by now
I'll just ram it home tonight and see what happens
Hey anybody know what music 034 uses for their on-hold?
Also, all this time I thought my (the 200's!) rear main had stopped leaking but it was just slower I guess since sealing up the distributor better. Ever since the second motor mount went in, it actually looks like the the rear main has stopped weeping for good

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Pretty extensive body work was needed under the driver's door. Had to cut out about 1ft^2 and treat all edges with loctite rust converter. Stuff is great! Then I put chicken wire in to support expanding foam sprayed over it. Dried over night and I trimmed that to put 2 layers of fiberglass over it. Now the garage can quit complaining! Hopefully they don't notice I only changed the outside rear brake pads on Tuesday for inspection. When the proper calipers arrive from Shokan I'll put the full set of pads in

I already had ALL the materials I used from doing some ody work for somebody 2 yrs ago. I lack the right kind of HF welder right now. I only have a shitty flux wire welder and I hate that thing

Would it make sense to tighten the trans mounts from a loose state (at idle) since replacing the motor mounts? Strange question I know

nope, put new ones in if you haven't - it's nice.

While I haven't measured the caliper jaws just yet, they do look really nice for being used. Very free movement of pins and pistons. I'm impressed with their scavenging abilities and prep work

These are in great shape. I have never had such good brakes until now. When I bought the car it had seized rears and the wrong ones soon after that. Work great now
Now I have ceramic pads all around too. With the wrong calipers, I was using one used up organic pad and one ceramic. Aweful braking like that!

It try is amazing what good working calipers will do or your braking ability! I thought it was just the ebrake that didn't work on the bandit until I replaced the calipers. What a difference.

Ya I never put much thought into the brakes honestly. It might seem most obvious with me using half a set of new pads back there
I'm a little confused as to why more people haven't brought up "whose Shokan?" I've only seen people say they can't find the right 20v calipers from the FLAPS. Well anyway for the others in that situation, go to Shokan in NY and you won't regret it. No cores required!
