Except I just found the radiator leaking in one corner. Feck! I don't want to drop more than $150 on one tho. That rules out a correct Chinese ebay knockoff. Maybe a 5000 copper one? I put one in the 5k and it started looking "funny" on the one end tank crimp after 5 yrs. Only seen one ref to a brand and I think it was Nissin or similar (sp?) Yay, nay?

Try one of the ebay china aluminum units or just get a behr 20v rad. and call it good.

It's a shame my radiator is only an hour away lol. It's in transit so I won't see it until Monday.

With some available time I moved the catch can intake port from the k&n filter area to right in front of the turbo and tapped into the cobra head elbow. I think it turned out well.

Also in a strange stroke of luck concerning the fuel vapor line only under the car (which if you recall those shady mechanics refused to do...), I found that a 5/16" steel fuel line to 5/16" nylon fuel line adapter has a sort of pipe on the inside that 1/4" nylon line can be forced to sleeve over. I am pretty surprised it fits. The end by the fuel tank can be joined to the factory nylon line thats ~1/4" using a shark bite butt connector. Pretty cool. I may try doing the line today real quick after buying a HF pipe cutter for $6. I think the line will only see vacuum anyway. No risk of blowing apart. Its a damn tight fit though.

Even cleaned everything up down there and got all the new lines, along with my w/m line, run in the OE keepers

The freakin valve train sounds awful again. It's one valve only by the location of the sound. Before it went away but not this time. It persists even through an oil change.

I found the 034109309AD hyd. lifter (INA) from FCPEURO for $6.99 with free shipping and for only $4 from hansautoparts.com in the carolinas (unknown mfg. ) and $12 shipping. I'll call tomorrow about the manufacturer early in the morning. Maybe I better take an audio clip and post the youtube link after work to get other opinions. It kind of sounds like one lifter has completely bled down and isn't pumping up at all anymore. Idk tho

Julian's '91 200 19vt! If you can, take a stethoscope to the valve cover (cheapo Harbor Freight one will do) to try and pinpoint which one is culprit. Hopefully it's just a lifter and not something more sinister.

Lol its a very unique motor. One in the world! Ya I should probably find the problem valve first and then take a minute to focus on it and investigate while changing all of them.

The $4 lifter is made in China lol. No thanks.

034 says I don't need any titanium items when changing to the supertech valve springs. No keepers or anything. I'm gonna order the springs (maybe factory direct ) as well as the INA lifters and borrow audi schwagen's valve compressor tool. Maybe I'll finish b4 the winter.

BTW anyone know the supertech 3b springs p/n

Boy do I feel like a dick lol. Called supertech and they will only sell the springs, retainers and locators as a titanium kit for $550. They said if I only want the springs I need to buy from 034.

I'm sweating bullets here.. it sounded like it was right next to the crank dampener pulley when I used a vacuum hose to listen. I have a garage to work in next door but it's gonna be f#cking cold this winter. Lol I'm sad. Not sure if I should tear into the engine or pinpoint the cause first. Not sure I want to know the cause!

The vac hose thing works OK, but try using a long screwdriver if you don't have a stethoscope. Works much better as you will actually feel it as well as new it.

Thanks dave. I got set back a half hr tonight when the vac house I was using got tangled in the alternator belt and threw it off LOL. It was funny yes. I will likely invest in the HF one since it will probably be $4 hah. I may try that screwdriver but only if I manage to get it nowhere near the belts.
The noise doesn't sound as loud as the rod knock video I just watched. Can't barely hear it while driving even. I just threw up in my mouth alot.

PS my recent oil change didn't show anything weird or shiny in the oil but the ecs magnetic drain plug had a glob of fine shavings. Probably wasn't anything in the oil filter lol

Yep definitely will after work. I'd been listening to it all weekend and just didn't want to anymore yesterday so I took a break after putting the alternator belt back on.

More info: it quiets down intermittently during idle and while driving (IIRC), oil pressure is like it always has been and I've never seen it to be suspect. I thought the list would be longer

EDIT: I didn't notice any driveability issues at all. Car made full power and whatnot. The noise would increase at boost onset but quieted down after reaching full boost.

When I first started the car I thought the sound was gone! Nope it came back after a few seconds. Doesn't it sound too quick to be the rod knocking?

Oh that sounds yucky. Not like a lifter tick. But maybe a fubar lifter sounds different. And it sounds a lot louder down low... Maybe just because of the sound bouncing off the pavement, I'm not sure.

I wasn't particularly psyched about the "down low" sound aspect.

I did for 2 days with no increase in noticeability. Drives great hah

Also keep in mind that this happened, but louder, on my feckin birthday lol. Added 1/4 qt of oil over full and it stopped abruptly after driving a whole (short) block and not revving much higher than 3 to 4k rpm (25 mph zone). I just can't imagine at this point

Piece of the old coolant heater core valve or thermostat caught in water pump?
I know it's forbidden but I think I'm gonna drain some oil and put a bottle of stp oil treatment in to see if it quiets down. At this point I don't have the resources or location to really dive into a full rebuild so I guess I'll drive it. I have another motor.
