I'll back off a point or two and it'll start popping(lean?). Like literally a point or two..... Every now and then when it shuts down I can hear what sounds like running water coming from the fuel rail. I first heard it last week but thought it may have been coolant making its way through the system, which then it may have been. Being as the car sat for 10 years, I wouldn't doubt them being gummed up yet. I still have pressure bleed off at pretty rapid rate which I'd suspected was the FPR, but now I'm not sure haha. I had a stuck injector at first that has since cleared up and is spitting fuel now. It'll dump all 45lbs of fuel pressure in 15 secs or so. Thinking I should either send these injectors off for cleaning or pick up a new set. It's either $125 to have cleaned for the 5 or $175 or so for a set of 6 in most of the classifieds around, that I've seen anyhow. Thoughts?
I just got my Alfa Romeo up and running on MS2. At a certain point in the warm-up cycle it would start missing and and after-firing (popping out of the exhaust). The problem turned out to be the EGO Control under the Fuel Set-Up menu. I turned it the EGO Control off by turning the "Active Above Coolant Temp" setting to a very high temperature and the popping went away and it runs pretty well now.

Thanks for the advice! I haven't had a chance to read through that article but surely will. All my issues were DIRECTlY related to timing. I was stupid and chased my tail messing with fuel and not dialing in my timing with a light. As per advice from "elaw," I rolled the motor back roughly 30*(11 teeth, 2.6* per tooth fyi), set my trigger angle to 30* and its purring now! I still need to completely dial in my trigger angle but my timing light is a POS and doesn't flash very bright, makes it kind of hard to see my mark on the flywheel. I have the timing locked at 10* and it idles and revs pretty darn good. When I switch to running off the timing map(lock timing-> -10) it stumbles a little bit and sounds retarded when I rev it. Which makes sense being as the spark table at idle is <10* iirc. Still plenty of tweaking but it's idling and running as it should! Wooohoooo!
Next issue.... Some of you may have seen the video on the Facebook page(small chassis audi) of a noise I started hearing. It's a decently loud "whirring" sound coming from inside the bottom end. The general consensus, almost unanimously, was the timing belt may be too tight. So I'll need to figure that out next. So it goes! I'm happy as can be though!
I also ordered an MS2 daughter card last week before the holiday which has since shown up. Now that I have it running, I reckon I'll just jump in and get that upgraded as well. Happy days!
Can you post the video here please? I have driven a couple 20v's with over right timing belts.
Also, make sure there aren't any changes you need to make when you install the MS2 CPU. I believe there may be one of 2 when going from MS1 to MS2.
I'm glad t hear you got it going. We're you able to use the windowed cap to hell set the crank angle?

You've got the trigger angle set to 30 with no adder? According to the help, that's a no-no: "Do NOT use a value between 15 and 40 deg or your engine will not run correctly. "
I suspect what will happen is it'll work right at low advance values, but as you try to get spark advance near or greater than 30 degrees it'll wig out.
Don't worry though... when we get the MS2 in there it'll allow you to trigger off the leading rather than trailing edge of the window in the dizzy. That'll increase the trigger angle to the range where it works correctly at any spark advance setting.

I'll try and get a video uploaded sometime today. Getting my ass handed to me at work today. There's a new guy running my machines during the week and he absolutely demolished these things.... Uuuggghhhh. I haven't tried uploading videos from my phone lol.
Shit, now that you mention it "elaw" I remember reading that about the trigger angles being too low and it causing issues higher in the revs. When I punched in 30* it was just kind of a shot in the dark stab. Just kind of shrugged, typed it in and it fired lol. Once it was running I just left everything alone and let it warm up some to check for the typical "first start" stuff mechanical wise. It was getting late and I get up at like 5am so I shut it down. I should also note that "elaw" advised/guided the physical phasing of the distributor, NOT me setting the trigger angle to 30*. All the button mashing is on me lol.
elaw- I'll box everything back up and ship it out to you on Monday. Not having the ecu for a week or so will force me to get this damned A4 parted haha.
Haha, mine will be heading his way soon too. Very soon time to move up to MS3X for me!

Any update here? I live my 4K dreams through others...

Haha! No real updates though.... I spent the last week smacking ducks with steel shot in Canada. Since getting home on Monday I've been pretty lazy to say the least. I DID however bring home and install the URQ throttle cable I ordered from Audi Tradition. It still needs a little tweaking because the little ball at the end hits the fuel rail and opens the throttle some. Not sure if I need to clearance the rail or I can close the idle screw completely and tune around it? Meh, I'll prob just clearance the rail lol. I still need to bleed the brakes and clutch, redo a couple wires for the starter and WBO2 and I should be about ready! Well, once I get my new and improved ecu from the wizard, Mr.Law! I'm feeling pretty unmotivated this week and I go back to work tomorrow so it'll all have to wait until next week....
