i was actually being funny. i just forgot to add the :P . i do not see any available sway bar being able to do that. my guess is something is binding of otherwise locked up or maybe a spring broke and snagged at the full compression position.

definitely a frozen strut, not sure on what it is yet but to my knowledge its original.

I'm working with Nate to see if I can get a set of V3 fronts here in time for OSQ this weekend :-o

nice, glad to see some pics of the car out there. I thought it was funny that audiworld didn't have any pics of it but fourtitude did?

update time on the car. I dont think I mentioned the whole windshield saga from last week so I'll start from there.

The day before I went to waterfest I had a glass guy come out to replace my windshield. I had one of the few remaining OE coupe windshields in a box that I bought as part of a group buy with Peter through Clair Audi. We inspected the windshield when I received it and thought everything was fine. The glass guy immediately noticed small glass flecks when he went to go prep it for install. Sure enough, it was cracked under the blue insulating foam on the edge :curses:

So Peter Schulz to the rescue, he bought two of then and was willing to let me borrow one so the glass guy could come the following day and I could make it to waterfest. You rule, Peter (MORE help from peter in a minute).

So anyway, fast forward to Old School Quattros this weekend. I wanted to go but was thinking my suspension was going to keep me from making it. I wasn't going to be able to get a coilover setup on the car in time.

Enter Peter, again. As I was delivering a new windshield he mentioned that he had the shine racing suspension setup for his project coupe more or less hanging around and I was welcome to borrow it :-o

pretty much all done with the swap (I friggin love two piece struts, makes suspension swaps really easy). Only issue I ran into was my replacement rear tie rods (the ones on the car have badly torn boots but the joints are still free of play..) are not the right part, looks like they are too short. Anybody else run into this?

They are different depending on year or if you have a rear sway bar or not = sub frames are different.

On the windshield, they are still available from Audi, so don't worry about it too much. I am curious to know how did the glass guy go about re-attaching the A-pillar trim - rivet it back in as OE or...??

I can't find a rivet gun with a narrow enough tip that will slide in and do the job right - mine are just hanging there, half-assed screwed in/riveted.

He left that to me. He got the trim lined up perfect with the roof line (which is the had part anyway) and he recommended I use short stainless machine screws instead of rivets.. so I did exactly that. Came out great! #12 machine screws, like 1/4" long IIRC.

Ok...I'll try the screws then. Its such a stupid design though....and to think Audi still uses it today - new B6 A4 cabriolet's have the same sh!t.

for starters, cold :)

I'm not too bad of a beer snob, Sam Adams, Bass (perhaps mixed with Guinness, love teh black + tan), etc..

Marc and most everyone should know this. The boots on the tie rod ends on the Type44 are available to purchase separately, and are "the same" as the ones on the Type89/8A/8B chassis. They are around $8 per boot. I did a comparison a while back when I had to re-boot one of the 5kq's rod ends...

I was just wondering if there was a difference between the 2 types of studs. & since I seen that Javad all so sells the V8 studs....why he (Marc) would use the 16V VW headstuds instead.

There is no difference between the 16v vw head studs and the v8 studs. ARP part number 204-4702 . You'll need two sets.

so here's one for the motorgeek diagnostic crew :)

The brakes on my coupe aren't quite right and I'm having trouble figuring out where the problem lies. The brakes have no engagement at all until very low on the pedal travel and then the brakes grab hard very quickly. Its possible to actually touch the floor with the pedal, which is unnerving to say the least (but again, the brakes are on very hard at that stage). Vacuum assist seems to be working, and I've bled all corners and the master cylinder itself till I'm blue in the face.

What would cause such a malady? Bad master cylinder?

No leaks anywhere? Sounds almost like a leak in one circuit so you have no pressure until the other circuit engages. When the SS lines went out on the rear of my urS it did exactly as you describe. Go pumping away for a while and see if your brake fluid level drops in the res.
