Log style manifolds

Post by type85 »

Consensus on motorgeek a while ago was that this was the best ebay log manifold:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-S2-S4-S6-RS2-K24K26-TURBO-MANIFOLD-20V-/190923160639?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c73e83c3f&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=x50lutsU%252BOdQ165eIR%252BUd4LNLxM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Unfortunately it's no longer available, the manifold below is, but doesn't look as nice, especially the mounting for the waste gate:

Are there any affordable alternatives out there now??

thanks!

That bottom one is a replica of the rs2 manifold.
They're definitely not great, but they work. and they're better than stock manifolds.

"factory fitment" for $89 with a little better flow and no high heat to cyls 1 and 5. They're a pretty good deal for what you get.
I'd go for that, honestly.

But will you have to pay to have the flanges decked? Then will it Crack? I think the 034 log manifold is a decent deal at $350. You won't have problems with it. I didn't anyway.

+ however much in a wastegate, and the annoyances of routing that wg back into the DP.

The only negative I see is the wastegate. I have no firsthand experience, but I hear that routing the WG to the DP is a HUUUUUGE bitch. And probably wont wanna run a screamer pipe on a track car.
new downpipe isn't a huge ordeal if the plan was to make a new one in the first place.

I have the first log manifold you show up top and the only thing I had to do was modify the bellowed WG pipe by cutting out the straight sleeve that's hidden inside it. I used a worn down cutting disk on a dremel type pneumatic cutter. The first attempt to fit it back together requires having the 6 bolts on either end of it really loose and the turbo disconnected from the DP. Then you muscle it onto the turbo studs. I wrapped my exhaust after that since the bellowed piece wasn't as insulated anymore. This was needed because of the rs2 and 3b manifold differences.

FWIW, i had the first one (str) and it cracked on me after the 1st year (not many miles) of having it. Cracked at the turbo flange going to around 1/3 of the manifold's wastegate pipe. The downpipe didn't have a support installed around the transmission at the time and had heat wrap around the front half though, so those might have contributed.

IMO if you have the budget, there's much more to be had with a wagner manifold, they are of much better quality and hp happy. You could probs find a good deal on a genuine, specially with the low euro.

I have an old 034 header I would patch up and donate to the cause for a few bucks. It would probably crack again, but its a race car, on E85, I bet you would never notice. I have wastegates too.
