this is such a great update! super jealous. The boat life has put the audi on the back burner and shes gotten mad at me for doing so. She just went under the knife for a ton of wiring gremlins. but I'll save that sob story for my project thread(s) I guarantee that with the alignment you are going to freak out. My "eyeball alignment" versus a shop alignment completely changed the character of the car. congrats bud! looks awesome!

Thanks! I am very impressed with how well it does on an eyeball alignment, tomorrow I get a real one!

I backed all the shocks way off, to about +10% and it is a much smoother ride now. All the roads in my county get the cracks sealed and potholes filled (maybe), new or smooth pavement on back roads is only in the surrounding counties.

I am almost done messing with it and focusing on prepping the house for sale. Really want an AWIC and upgraded oil cooler! Hope the next house has at least a 2 car garage, detached ideally...

It is now much better with the shocks backed off. I have seriously bad roads where I like to go so I want the shocks to move so the tires can maintain contact with the road instead being really stiff to try and eliminate body roll. There is very little roll now and it's not much harsher then my old blue/race H&Rs with Konis at 75% but stays much flatter in the corners. Granted I haven't pushed it yet...

You will be happy with what you are putting together as well I think.

Looks like you've got this thing really nicely set up. The rear coilovers info should be added to the diy coilovers page!

The only thing I find sort of strange is that you have so many needle bearings up front (and the rear probably doesn't need them either, but it can't hurt). Those 2b top hats already have them integrated!

I only have 1 needle bearing per coilover. I bought a set for the fronts but ended up getting the 2B top hats so I put the leftover bearings in the rear. There was an earlier discussion about how they would let the spring rotate under compression/extension and operate smoother, some it called BS. I wanted it to be easier to adjust the ride height loaded is all...

Ah, that makes sense then. It definitely can't hurt other than more unsprung weight (marginally).

Re: Dan's '93 UrS4, Fuch me...

Heading home from alignment, got 1 turn on the on ramp, rush hour slow everywhere, felt good, hit rough transition in pavement at 65mph on freeway, loud crash, oh well, old rattly Audi, lol, still feels okay, 25 min later driving 15mph through my hood I hear some funny clangy noises, getting worried, park and look to find...

too low, wonder what happened, drink a few beers, worry about it to myself while talking to my wife about her crazy day, get daughter to bed, jack up car and tear it apart only to find...

Guess the penetration to the shock body was a little weak, here is the only spot that I can see any.

So yeah, fuch me...

I'll be happy if they warranty it for free, less than 100 miles and I want the other side done too, kinda makes me nervous having one let go.

At least all my work is good so far :hide:

That should definitely be warrantied by Koni. Poor weld on their part.
Bummed I wont see it this weekend. :wah:

This is a common thing for T44's and urs chassis cars. Rear spring perch problems. wtf seriously.

I was stoked not to be plagued by c clip issues but this is worse, lol.

You have to come out for a ride and a trans pickup!

I've wondered if it's safe weld to the shock body. Maybe if you do it in stages and keep the heat low since they are pressurized...

On the other hand, it might ruin the shock or be potentially dangerous...so maybe not the best idea. I'm assuming they do the welding before it is assembled.

Wow, that's crazy! I don't know how I never had any problems with my c clips while Phil had it multiple times.

The rep I dealt with at Koni replied and agrees it is a weld issue. He will take care of it as soon as possible, they are shipping out this morning.

relieved as I'm so far over budget
