Cara, look into a shop around your area that rebuilds axles. I have a place I can take mine to down here that can rebuild what you have with both eyes tied behind your back. Its called CV Axle Express, and they can repair CV's and Drivelines which usually run about $80 per axle for a complete overhaul of both joints and new boots. There has to be something similar around the area you live in. you dont have to buy new or used if you don't want to.

Force5 has a really good rep, but I agree with Dave... find a local Axle shop to have them rebuilt and scour the wreckers for a spare set.

The OEM axles are of far higher quality than the aftermarket so you're best served having rebuilt than new.

Truth.

You pay a premium for availability and fast turnaround time.

The two times I tried to get a hold of Chris @ F5 didn't end well... even if he has a great reputation amongst the community. First time he told me to arrange my own shipping, WTF? The second time he didn't bother to respond.

Shokan replied to my inquiry with a part price, shipping cost and expected delivery time within a day or two.

Ok cool. I just e-mailed Shokan. In the last 15 minutes I've called 5 places in the PNW near where I live that all do axle replacement/rebuilds, and none of them says they can do it on my Avant.
Yea, the force 5 guy seems overly laid back about the whole transaction but whatever. He's saying now he will give them to me for $50 a piece so I am still considering it but its a lot of work to have those be shit too and have to go through it all over again. I think if I can't find a better option I might just ask for him to throw in shipping and hope for the best.

I have to remind myself I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought it and it's worth it.

If you're ok with shipping costs and having your car down, send them to the place I mentioned. they will rebuild them and ship them back same or next day. they have never told me they couldnt fix ANY axle i gave them. the difference is they machine the axle you give them. machine, install new slightly oversized balls, and new boots on both inner and outer. Its the only way to go these days.

That sounds like a pretty good option. I would definitely be willing to have my car down temporarily in order to have it done right. I will get in touch with them too. Thanks!

I emailed them. Also sent an e-mail to Blauparts.com, heard they might have what I need.

Ok so far Shokan and Force 5 are the only places that have the axles. So it's a tough choice because I can spend $370 at Skokan and have a 6 month warranty and axles that are fully in tact.... Or I can spend $100 at force 5 and another $40 rebooting... Hope for the best and have money to spend addressing suspension issues...

For $370 pretty sure you could have new axles from Raxles for not much more.

As a former shokan employee I can tell you that axles are basically rebuilt. And I bet 1/2 of that price is shipping....

actually the shipping is just an extra $28... I don't have a whole lot of options here, I've tried every place that was recommended to me and scoured craigslist nationwide.... and still was only left with force 5's damaged axles or Shokan. Whats your opinion on it having worked there?

That's kinda what I was thinking. Anyway axles will be here Tuesday. Anyone who's done this before had much luck finding the bolts?

The inner bolts that connect the CV to the trans? The 8mm ones are cheap and easy to find (NAPA carries them), but I think the 20v uses the 10mm ones (N 90668201). Lots of places to get them online (Impex, ECS, FCP, Ebay, etc.). Maybe the dealer still stocks it?

I just got reman'd axles from NAPA for my CGT and they look nice. Had to ship straight from the manufacturer, but that was only a few days and $7.99 shipping for two. Return the core to your local store.

I have UFOs, my rotors and pads are completely worn. I believe have an extra set of pads so really just rotors if I kept it stock for now. Eventually I do want to completely upgrade the brakes so if I found a good option for that first I might go that way too... I'm really flexible right now. My roommate is about to convert to hp2s on his 200 so I was thinking about maybe doing that at the same time but I havent seen a set for sale recently, and grinding down the hub sounds like a pain. I did just start looking though. I have to drive to Portland in a few weeks so I wanted to take care of it before then
