Re: B4Q 80-AEB; Why near stock is totally OK
So, after thinking about this, I have come to the conclusion that near stock is totally OK for me.
The stock K03, which everybody hates on, is enough for me. It spools stupid fast and I am almost happy with the way this thing drives now.
3rd gear is mucho fun.
What are my goals for this car?
-200chp or so.
This will be easy once I control boost myself with the EBC function of my piggyback.
-A left side seat belt that is usable. I'd like my wife to sit next to me in safety.
-New paint. It looks crap now.
-Recovered door panels and rear seat.
-FMIC. Ok, so some moar fast goodies, but mostly get those IATs down a bit. It's hot here, man.
-New front discs (stock AEB) and good pads.
Done.

I don't see anything wrong with that either. Sounds like it'd be a fun setup! Later when all the details are ironed out, you can go a little faster

I agree. Get all the bugs worked out, chassis dialed and just enjoy your hard work. You can always make it faster later. Good job!

Re: B4Q 80-AEB; Why near stock is totally OK
Thanks guys. I have nowhere to use 300 or 400 crank safely. Nor the cash.
The chassis does need some dialing. For some reason, this thing pulls slightly to the left after the Quattro conversion. I have brought it to alignment 3 times and on the equipment it looks straight. I don't get it. I thought maybe the rear subframe was bolted on ever so slightly askew, but it is straight and square. Only thing I can think of now is that I put a 10mm shim on top of the FR shock strut.
The black leather Recaros and the 3 spoke steering wheel were totally worth it. It is a nice place to be now.
The boost oscillation is a little annoying, but I have concluded after following every single instruction by the MAP ECU guys to the letter, it just spools too fast for the engine to "eat" up the boost. I peak at 12PSI and it holds 10PSI OK.
Keep in mind, it has 2.5" DP and 2.5" single muffler exhaust, E85 and 630cc Dekas. I swapped the N75 for a H valve but it stayed the same.
I have attached a few pictures of how she sits now and some screenshots of the MAP ECU3 application. I have one of my spare slightly damaged CF hoods on there now. My own prototype hood is borked.
Included a pic of a neat tool for removing the injector cups safely without cracking. They seeped a bit so my buddy sealed them up with white plumber tape. Worked great.

Re: B4Q 80-AEB; New pictures
Just to experiment, I bought the 440 greentops from philip to swap in. I want to see what happens when going into boost.
The slower reaction time of the old style injectors might make a difference plus I want to see if a higher duty cycle affects anything else.
If no difference, I will have a set of injectors for the S6 to use for E85 conversion.

Re: B4Q 80-AEB; Finally FMIC!!
After running the 440s for a while it is clear that they work better going into boost. Much more stable boost.
Today I installed a front mount IC with a lot of help from my buddy! The car is getting new paint, recovered back seat and door cards. That should be done in 10 days or so.
Managed to find just the right one at the largest Bangkok second hand car parts market last Friday. Its an IC from a Benz W203 Kompressor. I got the IC and the stock clip-in hoses for about 180 bucks. The core is good quality and about twice the size of the stock AEB SMIC. 25.5"x2.75"x5.4"
It was a piece of piss to mount, really. Some cutting and welding needed to be done, but the hoses were quite easy. Had to find a long 2.5" L hose.
Found a radiator hose from a truck that worked well. 10 bucks for hose and clamps. New.
Pics!

Re: B4Q 80-AEB; FMIC, New Paint and interior DONE!
Alrightythen...
New paint: Done
Newly covered door cards: Done
Newly covered back seat: Done
FMIC: Done
Now to up the boost.
I soldered in the EBC wires for my piggyback, but there is some kind of firmware error so it does not retain the EBC settings.
New pics soon.

No, does it look that bad?
It was done cheaply, though. About 600 bucks.
The paint are Toyota colors and labor is quite cheap here.

Re: B4Q 80-AEB; 16psi is hilarious!
Finally got the EBC function of the MAP ECU hooked up correctly and the firmware updated.
Its now pulling nice and hard. Hilarious! What a difference
Target boost at 4200rpm is 16psi. Is an AFR of 13.0-13.3 OK at that pressure?
All that is left:
-New front discs and upgraded pads
-seat belt for passenger.

The car looks great! That afr is fine at that boost, but since it's petty hot where you are it couldn't hurt to make it a little richer.

Thanks. Means a lot coming from you considering your high standards. I am quite happy with how it looks now. And my wife likes it, which is important.
Right now I am playing with the EBC since it is spooling real hard. A little too hard. Clutch is starting to slip, of course.
Its like: nothing... nothing... DAAAAAAAMN.
Right now, AFR is about 12.0-12.5 under full boost, dipping to 11.3. It sputters and coughs a bit then booom. I think I have to turn down the sensitivity of the EBC. The K03 wastegate is fairly slow to react, right?

What is happening, I think, is that the WG is not opening quick enough, but that could just be my settings.
Today it was behaving a little better, but I have a over-rich condition when it starts to spool up. It does not like anything under 12.0 anymore. So, have to dial out some fuel in part of the zones. It's happening in the 2-6psi range, I'd say. Need to make some logs.
Today, I ran these settings:
Sensitivity: 20%
Gain: 2
Target boost: 14psi
DC across the range: 50%

Re: B4Q 80-AEB; limp mode?
And now: limp mode.
It seems like the AEB ECU has detected overboost. VAGCOM said so. The MAF signal is reduced by the piggyback, but the stock ECU is not fooled.
It is spooling up too fast. I have seen the signal from the MAF hit the ceiling several times, 4.99v. The was with a sensitivity setting of 80%
As soon as it goes into boost, it stumbles and coughs. Did a thorough boost leak test yesterday.
I will go back to 20% today. I hope that is it.
How do you get the AEB ECU out of limp mode? VAGCOM did not mention limp mode in the scan.
Could be I will have to install my VEMS after all. Getting a little tired of this messing around.

If I recall correctly, you can reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and holding the + / - terminals together for 10 seconds.
