more VEMS timing issues, yay....

Post by vwnut8392 »

well im back at trying to get my 4000 to run again and its fighting me tooth and nail like always. since i last posted here i was running hall effect 60-2 crank and the stock hall cam on the AAN and i did manage to get it running and driving for a few hours before ECU failure. so now that i got my ECU back it is now a VR crank and hall cam. im using a VR sensor from an MK3 GTI VR6 by the way. i figured if i load my last known running hall fine and just change the trigger edge from falling to rising as per what i read online for hall and VR sensors it should fire up no problems. well to my amazement it would even sputter. my trigger log looks clean to me, the injector and ignition settings worked before so i have no idea why it wont give me a sign of life. im on my last thread with this car and about to throw in the towel and part it out so if anyone can help me out that would be awesome.

180 out?

if you are getting spark (visual on the plug) and no sputtering at all, thats usually what that means.

Go get your timing light.

got spark, plugs are wet but no fire.

to test 180 out would i rotate the firing order in VEMS or shift the outputs?

setup a timing light on it and everything seems to be in check and i tried to rotate the firing order and that didnt work. i noticed that the engine sounded funny during cranking so i checked compression and the numbers sucked. lowest cylinder was 60psi and highest was 120psi. looks like its time to rip it all back out and tear it down again for the millionth time and see what failed now. i bet the bore is worn out or the rings are shot.
