Glad you are all sorted out. I want to see more pics and hear how awesome it is when finished as I miss mine and want to drive it again!

Another busy night burning the midnight oil... Got two OEM axles in hand that only need re-greasing, I got the final pipe routing for the FMIC completed, I got the wrong bearings pressed out and the correct wheel bearings pressed in, and the uprights test fit. The most stressful task at hand now, besides waiting for new swaybar bushings (the subframe ones not the LCA ones), is cutting the euro bumper to fit this IC. :wah: Here's what took place last night.

Nothing huge tonight, I got the bumper rebar trimmed back, before I start trimming grilles or anything that affects the look of the bumper, i've ordered some silicone bends to try to remove the need for the aluminum bends that are getting in the way... Got the correct axle in my possession, cleaned everything out, repacked them with moly, and installed new boots. I found a tiny bit of play in one of the thuppu camber plates between the bearing and the housing, so I need to get that sorted out. Small details remain to be sorted out, but the big picture is looking excellent.

I have a definitive answer for my fellow euro bumpere'd s-car crowd considering fitting a FMIC. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DONT.

Ive called an all stop on the FMIC project before I hack the hell out of this bumper. Ive already gone too far and am having heart palpatations. I had figured the setup I bought would have gotten by, since it came off a euro s6 with A/C. There is a minute yet MAJOR design difference in the lower grill section, the s6 is almost plumb while the s4 has a gradual rake to it, meaning you start cutting into the material that makes up what you see from the front of the car very quickly. I'm trying one last ditch effort and ordering some more silicone hoses to remove some of the bent aluminum piping. For anyone wanting to upgrade from stock, use an AWIC. FMIC is NOT worth this amount of heart ache.

Breathe in... Breathe out... Mild weekend. Got the axles re-installed, the tie rods freed up, slathered in never-seize, and installed. Hubs are mostly pressed in, (final torque to be done) and the motor put back together. At this point, "the damage is done" to the euro bumper. I might as well keep on the course until its sculpted to fit the FMIC. I got too caught up in the availability of euro bumpers here in the states, and worried too much about others' perceptions of me cutting one up. I want the simplicity and lighter weight of an air to air intercooler, and that is going to require sacrificing something somewhere. Would I recommend it to others? no. But I think I can live with myself and my modified euro bumper at the end of the day. After all, these are just fun old cars to mod, not an investment vehicle to be kept in a bubble. Cheers.

I won't give you a hard time for cutting some plastic. Anything can be fixed down the road if you change your mind. Get those iats down!

I was able to source some nice reducing 90* silicone connectors, which eliminated some bulky hard piping. small things to keep trimming minimal. so. many. hose. clamps.

Yeah, don't worry about it. It's just a bumper.

Looks like Pop and the Thailand guys were able to make theirs look pretty good.

Meh, I've never had issues with silicone hoses and bead rolled tubing...it is a pretty rock solid method. Especially on a FMIC which doesn't move very much.

Slow updates lately... parts hold-ups, finessing everything into place, MORE unforeseen issues (rust holes in power steering hardlines can suck ma bag.) I'm finally about a day's worth of work away from rolling into the alignment rack. I got the solid subframe bushings in, the subframe in, the steering tie rods are in, I finalized the intercooler piping and clamped everything down solid, and the euro bumper is finally 90% fit, and it still looks like it should! all I can say is talk about fitting 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag... but here is the fitted modded bumper. I still wouldnt recommend doing what i did!

Lookin gooD! You're almost there! Then onto the rears! ;) I agree with the others, its your car do with it as you wish! That front end is gonna be tight when you're done. Ed's fabbed/modified strut mounts looked awesome...as did the whole set up. Kinda jelly...

Hit me up for an interior detail! I almost wrote my name on the dash that day I was there with the CV axle! ;)

Excellent progress, glad to see things are really coming together in a neat way. Not sure who would ever be against you hacking up a bumper you bought to put a juicy intercooler behind it, I especially love the finish to boot. It's been a long road i'm sure without much benefit or enjoyment from the car, remembering the state of the car three years ago I'm glad it got the entire treatment.

Hope I can still lend a hand sometime soon :beer:

Yeah, on the piping for adhesion. Best trick in the book if you have problems with stuff popping off.

Someone on here modded a set of pliers to roll a bead into the piping too, but I'd hesitate to name them for fear of getting it wrong. Pretty handy trick, actually. Hope he "pipes" up!

taking a break from the car for the week. My plans last weekend changed abruptly and drastically. All is well but it's made me realize the true things worth caring about in life. I dont want to share too many details, but I hope everyone can look at those closest to them, those that support your dreams, and quirks, and crazy car habits, and tell those people how much they mean to you all. Everything can change in an instant. I'm lucky things didn't change for the worse. more car updates when I dust myself off and find my head right to get back to the build.
