BTW if there is a boost problem still it will be a bugger to find as i have seen no sure signs that the ex is clogged or the intake system leaking.

Re: mc/7a. active ex. DSM arb .CC vent. holset. fab intake
since the WG attaches to the comp housing in the original ap i had to make a little bracket to hold it because my comp housing was to be clocked to fit. the bracket attaches to the ex housing flange of turbo so that it no longer relies on the position of the center or compressor.
also regarding the WG. i ended up enlarging mine from iirc .79" to .88" with a 7/8 drill bit. i hope i end up with no boost creep but if i do i can still do some contouring and/or enlarging of the port and making a bigger flapper door for the turbo.
If the spool is too slow i can swap to an after market ex housing but would then have to go to an external WG. there is room for it but i would have to redesign my turbo support brace a bit.
oh well good to have options.
....or put an HTA30 and live happily ever after.

okay for the record i am unsure if the WG will have creep or not. seems as though my low boost issue followed the new hardware. i have been very forgiving of the rodents that play in the back yard and drive my cat crazy but if i find out that one of them has stashed acorns, built a nest, or some other plug in my exhaust system, so help me the live trap will not be used. i will kill them all and let god sort them out. i have already seen some squirrels coming and going through a hole they ate in my sea doo cover. :barf:

my hx35 came with an aluminum elbow designed to work with a v-band and silicone o-ring so i made a steel version of this connection area (a steel donut with an o-ring groove and an angled flange for the v-band) that i could weld some steel mandrel bent tubing to. This proves that old guys can run v-bands....lame oem ones.

Re: mc2/7a/ active ex/DSMsway/CC vent/holsetHX35/fab intake
Hmmm, still a little unsure what I think of my hx35. Only really did some shake down runs. So far I do not see huge power. Okay power, but not huge, a little more fine tuning and an IC upgrade may be in order. I think that with that divided housing, the turbine stays hot all of the time. I may do some contouring of that divider and that may make boost control better also. Although I do not get boost creep at my 30+ psi level. I am pretty sure 22psi and above are no problem and who runs an audi lower than that anyway
Now, back to that hot turbine. The other night in temps of low 30s with the engine good and warm I could floor it at about 3k rpm and have approx. 30psi at 3700rpm on my stock tack. That is pretty damn fast spool. HP wise, I may be limited by my small NPR ic but really I would ball park it at only 400ish SAE hp on a good day. My 7.5 cr is not going to win me any hp/psi honers but this engine is damn resistant to knock. I think it would be a perfect budget build for folks that live in states that limit the good stuff to 91 octane. It is about time to put the car to bed for the winter but in the spring I will be thinking about IC/ rad upgrades and lots of heat shielding. Of course I will look at pressure loss and heat gain data across that IC before deciding it is too small. I do like the car and will be honing it a bit in coming years but it does share my spare time with other mechanical things and other living things so it may not happen over night. I am setting a goal of 500hp and pefect DD manners.

:woohoo: 30psi<4k with <8:1cr is pretty sweet!
Re: mc2/7a/ active ex/DSMsway/CC vent/holsetHX35/fab intake
yes, it was but really i think that the turbo is cheating by it's turbine housing staying hotter than it has a right to. I think it is because of that divider right in the middle of the flow. my housing can glow a dull red just from putting it around at 40 mph in 4th gear for 40 minutes. when I jump on it before it is warmed up it is 30 psi at about 4200 rpm. big difference but still not horrible....then there is that only 400hp thing. who is anyone going to hurt with only 400 sae hp? I need to figure out the heat and why only 400hp. like I said, I am not sure how I feel about it yet. it is complicated.

Something doesn't compute there, 30psi at 4000rpm would/should be a stupid amount of torque. If your turbine housing is glowing under cruise, I would take a good look at what your EGTs are doing.

Re: mc2/7a/ active ex/DSMsway/CC vent/holsetHX35/fab intake
It sounds like you need more timing advance
Re: mc2/7a/ active ex/DSMsway/CC vent/holsetHX35/fab intake
there is only one way my timing can be off and that would be if my 034 60-2 pulley has failed. I have had the same thoughts and plan on checking it out with a timing light. I also plan on getting my EGT gauge working again. BUT really imagine that flow from the t3 flange hitting a stupid thick bridge right in the middle of the turbine flange. the header is not glowing at all it is only around the flange of the turbo- that has got to be holding some heat. Regarding advance: when I ran into the compromises from the load/rpm set up that the ecu does i worked around it by making my timing map at low load error on the advanced side since my low CR can deal with that fine.

that flat bridge in the middle of exhaust flow, in the hx35 housing was a bad deal so... hog out with an end mill and prettied up

regarding valve relief:
i used same diameter and same angle of inclination as the 7a reliefs
i planned for .062" of clearance
NOW the following dimensions will, as you can imagine, vary depending on how much the pistons are proud. mine were .027"
to help you read that, the relief is .041 deep for 0 degree cam timing, .101 deep for half a tooth off (like if you use an adjustable cam pulley), and .161 deep if you want enough safety margin for a one tooth off botched timing belt job.

working on it. i need to find a co-pilot to hold a camera. if anyone with a known 400hp is in my area, we can use the neighborhood wormhole that will get us to a closed road in Mexico to line them up and see how it does.

So all in all, mc2 block and 7a head goes right together with machine work on the pistons and block?

Re: mc2/7a/ active ex/DSMsway/CC vent/holsetHX35/fab intake
you will hate that low of a compression. Even 8:1 is to low, and very laggy compared to a 9.5:1 turbo motor.
Re: mc2/7a/ active ex/DSMsway/CC vent/holsetHX35/fab intake
technically, it does not need any machine work other than adding some piston reliefs which can be done by hand if you make a fixture and have a little skill. i only decked my block and pistons to eek out a little more compression.fivecylindersoffury wrote:So all in all, mc2 block and 7a head goes right together with machine work on the pistons and block?

mine kinda sucks off of boost but honestly, not any more than a stock 7a and mine is making 5+ psi pretty much instantly anything above 3k so it is much better than a stock 7a for drivability. i think with good standalone tuning and getting rid of the maf, one gains back what is lost in CR. of course it would be that much better with the higher CR but I do not think it is a problem imho. I think the low CR makes things a little more comfortable tuning wise compared to my one of my other little bitches that runs 17.5 psi and cranks 194psi of compression. that car with its small turbo and high egt is a little stinker in comparison.
if someone wants to take my car for a drive before jumping into their project is it okay with me.

what is your compression ratio?
I was more commenting on the unmilled mc block with a 20v head being to low.

iirc my best guess is unmilled mc2 would be 7.1 ish and my milled mc2 combo is 7.5

a fix -still a compromise, but i think 20vt cams and/or advanced cam timing would help it feel way stronger off of boost but I am happy enough with my 7a cams and stock cam timing.
