Interesting direction with the exhaust. I want to say that Jim Green tried a parallel setup a while back in which exahaust simultaneously passed through a small pipe and a 3" pipe. I have considered a small parts store muffler alongside a 3" Magnaflow at the rear of the car, but my love of simplicity usually overcomes my love of peace and quiet. Aside from that, the engine and diff are solid mounted in my car.
funny thing is that giving the exhaust a second path to go seems to somehow make it quieter overall, even with the valve open, and i mean a good amount more quiet.ymmv

it is only as proud as the number one intake runner so a safe ways away from denting hood on launch

That is what I thought I saw. I am still tempted by the VW 2.slo oil cap VC vent.

dude, do the math- you are the one with a big heavy wagon without an engine in it at the moment. packaging dream for a C4. but yeah, they sound great and i bet spool a 600hp turbo well enough for DD duty.

maybe some day far down the road i might do the VR6 swap in my avant

been hearing some good things about holset so I am going to try one myself and review it for MG. I hear that the HX35 spools like a gt30 and makes power like a gt35. My guess is that is hype and it is really the other way around but still lots of bang for the buck. if it is too laggy for me there are ways to fix that too.

Good to hear. I don't think it spools quite as fast as the gt30. I have a hx35/40 hybrid with the 12^cm hot side and I get full boost around 3800 rpm's. It definitely does not spool like a k24. It is a tad laggy, but I think you'll really like the performance. I'm thinking about trying a quick spool valve and seeing how that helps with spool time.

A 35/40 hybrid will be better suited to making 35r power with 30r-ish spool.

I can tell you than an HX35 or H1C will make almost exactly the power a good 30r will, but spools probably 500 rpms slower. 35/40 hybrid should have the potential to spool the same as an HX35 (maybe a tad slower), but power potential of a 35r.

it came with a t4 flange welded on so i cut that off and changed the angle a bit and with a little heat and bending i made it suitable for a t3 flange (which i made out of 5/8 stock and threaded for studs). You know, once you cut a t4 flange off that is too big, no matter how much more cutting you do, the collector is still too big for a t3 flange.
i also closed up the WG tube and machined everything nice and flat. so, i am going to try to control with the internal WG. And if that does not work i will add an audi WG to the thing. I have a few tricks to increase the chance of the internal WG working though. i really wish i could at least save my pics as a lower res file so that i can post these big mamas.
BTW tacked my IC piping and DP stuff together and got my intake tacked enough. hopefully more tomorrow.

Another internal WG option is a Bullseye Power housing which, IIRC, has a larger WG port. They can also be had in more desirable A/Rs.

Well right now we just changed it over to open loop boost control and its back down to 20psi, but i was at 23. I want to tune it up to 25-26 on pump gas, but im gonna wait to talk to Marc more about it. My waste gate really starts opening around 3600. And it flys from 15-23 in no time! Its awesome. Im on an AAN with balanced rotating assembly and Scat rods with an RS2 exhaust cam (soon to be 7a's)

I've thought many times about cutting up a 7A intake, though flipping the plenum and the bends 180* to make it a forward-facing manifold.... I have a spare manifold to try it on if I ever find a way to cut aluminum straight. :P

after doing all kinds of work to get the coupe together i go to start the SOB and get nothing. that stupid signal wire to the starter is only 2.8ish volts instead of 12. i jumped that bastige and drove her around a very limited amount. i had a low boost issue before the holset and now my holset with a drilled out WG port does hold 12 psi....or is this my low boost issue that stuck around some how for the holset? i was able to raise boost to about 15 and the spool was not great but not too bad and it did make more power above 5k rpm for sure. time will tell. boost delivery will feel much better once it is up to my target of 30. it will be more of a hit. so far though boost response is okay and power is improved. i really think at 30psi things will be very nice.

nice to see, are there more pics of the creation of that manifold? I think winter 12 i will tackle the turbo onto the audi, right now im debating on putting in the NG pistons/rods or putting the head on an extra MC2 bottom end i have around. NG would be a bit higher CR but cast, the MC2 would be low CR but very strong. any advice?

i think that mc2/7a the way that i did it feels okay and a std mc2 would feel barely okay. NG a little better but not much. all are pretty slow off of boost but so is a stock 7a. both MC options are way stronger rod wise than an NG (my guess). std mc2 build being same work as NG and my shaved mc2 being a bit more work. the MCs will make the NG look fragile above 400hp. how high are you going? i like the 2.2 bore for the MLS gasket. i do not like the MLS gasket on an NG.

BTW if there is a boost problem still it will be a bugger to find as i have seen no sure signs that the ex is clogged or the intake system leaking.
