Dumb 5lug swap question

Post by hanicus »

Would it be possible to use T44 front strut housings on a B3/B4?

I see this as a relatively inexpensive solution to 5lug front hubs, and if the donor car had UFO brakes, I could run anything that fits a B5 S4 (thinking TTRS here)... correct me if I am wrong.

Spring and damper issues would not be of concern since I would convert the housings to coilovers, likely with shorter koni motorsport inserts. This might sound like I am cheaping out on the foundation, only to spend way more on everything else... :hide:

So does anyone know if this would even be possible?

Would strut angle be an issue?

What about balljoint size?

TIA :drunk:

You can do T44 struts on b2's so I'm sure you could do the same on a b3. Just not certain how it would all line up. 200 20v and v8 use a 19mm Ball joint, whether its UFO or g60. 5kq's use an 18mm Ball joint. I'd go with a ufo strut and run that. No need for axle change since its the same style of CV.

You may also need new outer balljoints, as I believe th T44 stuff comes in from the top instead of the bottom.

It would be interesting to see how it affected track width as well. I think the UFO stuff is supposed to have the narrowest width of the bunch, but that is one area that could be totally different on the two assuming everything lines up roughly the same.
