So I bought my 2001 A6 with the transmission going into failsafe and no reverse. The car was intially going to be for my wife (she only wanted to drive auto) so i removed and fully rebuilt the transmission.
The A-Clutch drum was the culprit for the failsafe. I purchased the upgraded A-Clutch design by Kuhle along with a full rebuild kit including Paper & Rubber Kit, Front & Rear Seal, Steel Ring Kit, Friction Clutches, Steel Plate, Filter, Modulator, Band, Bushings, Washers, F-Clutch, and O-Rings. I have the entire rebuild documented with tons of pictures. After the rebuild was done all gears work EXCELLENT, EXCEPT reverse. For whatever reason Reverse still isnt working. If you have any more questions about any diagnostics that were run, plz feel free to call/text.
Aside from Rebuilding the Transmission it also has a new Torque Converter, Rear Main Bearing, Main Pressure Valve for the Valve body, A 2nd FULL valve body will also be included. The Trans oil pump gear was also replaced and the Oil pump was rebuilt. After i ended up getting a Touareg for my wife the A6 is now going to become my daily driver so i decided to swap it to a 6spd manual.
Honestly i just dont want to have to deal with trying to figure out the reverse anymore since i'm going manual. It literally could be something very simple that someone else/a shop could figure out very quickly since the trans will be already removed. Overall i am into the rebuild over $1,100 JUST IN PARTS. Considering a CORE is worth over $1,000 to a dealership plus the $1,100 in parts and if i charged $0.00 in labor i feel my asking price is fair at $800.
So long story summed up, I have a fully rebuilt A6 5HP24a transmission with no reverse, new torque converter, extra valve body and about 10quarts of PENTOSIN ATF $160 (the good expensive stuff about 500 miles and extremely clean)
