Andy's 95UrS6 - SOLD

Post by A20V200 »

Well…its about time to bring this over here…From March 2012

After searching for over a year or so for a fine example of an RS6 or S6 or UrS6, I decided to go with a UrS6 for obvious reasons. AAN I5, manual, and it's in awesome condition. The car has been meticulously maintained/upgraded and cared for by the 2 previous owners, the last one owned it for 8 years and was the owner of Concours Cars . The interior is absolutely cherry.....pop! No major accidents, no dent's, I have all the service records and the receipts done from the build. It is one of the original S-cars built by Dave Jones when he was @ RevSport in Colorado.

List of upgrades:
Innovative/ Garrett T4 Hybrid 50 trim Turbo, RS2 EM, RS2 MAF, 3" Stebro turbo back exhaust, 42# injectors, 7A Cams, RevSport/Motronic software, full Samco hose kit, Porsche TT BBK, Bilstein shocks w/ Vogtland lowering springs, LLtek front valance, clear bra and A pillar gauges...boost,A/F , adjustable fuel regulator, 044 fuel pump. The car is super clean and has most of the mods I would've done and was exactly what I was looking to do with an S6.

Things I've done so far. Swapped wheels and tires with my 200-18x7.5 Racing Hart C4's, clear corners, blacked out the front grill/badge/trim, covered the wood grain bits with silver carbon fiber and the dash lights to red. Coming up next is 034 short shift kit and FMIC and light window tint .....in the not so distant future...3071R/injectors and retune….or a full on swap with an 07K.

So far it's solid and loving it.

Image
Thanks for the compliments.

1) The ride on the Vogtlands+Bilsteins=really nice. The previous owner tried all sorts of combo's, Konis/H&R/ etc. and settled on this setup and I have to agree it rides really nice.

2) I will do a light shade of tint and maybe black out the rear badge. I want to leave some chrome "accent" pieces on there to dress it up a bit.

3) The car has a stated 375 hp with the set up is has now. It's definitely built to go fast, but it is more a "top end" turbo. The previous owner said he had it up to 155mph...dang. On the way home, I had to do some testing of my own on a "closed Interstate" of course, it really rips when you put the hammer down...75 to about 120 in a couple of seconds... :D

4) Blacking out the front. The chrome around the grill was starting to bubble and chipped. The only way to do it is sand or rough up the chrome and use plasti dip rubberized coating in the spray can. Edigreg and others have agreed it's the only way to go.

I will be updating my mods and progress here as well.

It's the stock ECU that's been remapped by Dave and from the paperwork that I have it's MTM/Hoppen. I think it has closer to 400hp, since the previous owner said it will take his RS6. Also, they (CC) happened to be working on a new Audi TT RS at the shop when I picked this up, and said that the UrS6 had beaten that as well. After that, the owner of the TT RS found out, he promptly purchased a stage 2 set up for his car!!!

I think when the FMIC is installed that will push it over the 400hp mark.

While I'm waiting for my Samco hoses for the FMIC install, I decided to freshen up some bits and clean up some areas that need attention. Brake time!!! I took the old angle grinder with the wire wheels attachment to the hats on all four corners and had the rotors turned. Then painted with 1200 degree paint and then gave the front calipers a light sand and cleared them. For the rears, I took the wire wheel again and took off some corrosion and gave them a fresh paint job as well. Also purchased a new S6 badge, the other was badly faded and worn….

Since it decided to snow here in AZ in the middle of April, I thought it would be a good time to get the carbon fiber going on the wood trim.
I used silver carbon fiber "fabric" from http://www.destronsgarage.com" and then cleared it about 3 times with some heavy duty automotive clear. The fabric is easy to work with and has nice deep look to it and turned out great, all for about $40 in materials.

I did try the 3M dinoc wrap=the suck. More of a metallic silver/gold color

Got some other stuff accomplished

034 short shift kit and swapped over the 2Bennett Camber plates w/ Bilstein adapters and had a front end alignment done. Light 3M tint will be applied tomorrow to give a little extra protection to the interior from the AZ sun.

Still waiting on 1 Samco hose to come in from BRITS in Cali and the FMIC intercooler mounting/fabbing will be next up.

It's been a while. Finally got the Samco hoses I was waiting on. Will be mocking up the IC piping and hopefully done by this weekend. While I'm at it, doing the valve cover gasket and possibly powder coating the VC. Just don't know...BLACK, RED or GOLD or maybe polish it....but that's a pain in the A$$, but it looks sweet!!

Image

Also getting ready to order the EFI Express LS2 coils.....just a couple more things to do…..

Just waiting on one more piece of the intercooler piping and it's back on the road. I had to trim some of the LLtek front bumper to get it to fit, but not too much. It will add some "go" and look bitchin' after it's back together. I have some tubing and silicon connectors left over from the build, they are FS in the swap meet. Relocated the PS cooler with an aftermarket one and replaced a leaky VC gasket, while I had it off, I hit it with some wrinkle paint. Red for now, see if it grows on me, if not, I know what color to do next.

Image

Image

The FMIC has been done for a while, looks good and "feels" like there is more power. After going back and forth between the EFI express LS2 set up and the 034 Coils...I decided to go with the LS2's and saved a couple hundred bucks in the process. I also have to thank Marc for special ordering the black Magnecor wires instead of the red. That way if I decide to change the valve cover color to a different one, the black won't clash with the color I have in mind.

Next up is swapping out the 2B coilovers to the S6 from the 200 to drop down that ever so crucial 1" it needs for the right stance IMO.

Image

Image

Busy weekend swapping parts to and fro.....from 3 different cars: 91 200 and 2 - 95 S6's. Not only was it 100 degrees out, but 3 seized tie rod ends(all on the left side on all 3 cars) reared the fugly heads to derail our timeline along with the getting the first set of strut assemblies out of the silver S6. It was a trying day and a lot of cussing was going on. At least we had my 3 car garage to work in....dayumn!!!!!

From my 200 and S6 - Vogtland springs, Bilstein Sports, and 996T brake conversion to the silver S6

From the Silver S6 - the stock suspension going onto the 200 with the G60 brakes

From the 200 onto my Black S6 - 2B Adj. Coilover system, Adj KONI's up front and keeping the Bilstein Sports out back.

It's been a while since last post....couple things have happened...

1) We had our first child in January - Evan

2) New parts for the "whip!!"

- 18x8 Neuspeed RS 10 's 17.8 lbs each
- Euro tail light conversion
- Smoked side markers

I will get some better pics when I get time to clean it a bit..

Went up to Vegas for Battle Born 2013...great time and met a lot of the faces that frequent the forums.

While i was up there, I had IROZ MS install a Southbend Stage 3 endurance clutch and a 12# LWFW and clutch slave....man does that make a huge difference in how the car feels and reacts. I suggest anyone looking to release rotational mass on their car.....do it!!!

Between the the flywheel=loss of 16-17 #'s and the new RS10 Forged Aluminum wheels@17.8#'s = loss of 8#'s per corner=32#'s...it really adds up.

Image

Image

Image

Now that the clutch is properly broken in....DAMN!!!! This thing hauls ASS!!!....spiking @28psi and holding steady @25psi....I had to have Marc @EFI rip me a new boost chip while in Vegas because of slight detonation up top...but I think it was the lower altitude vs here at home @5000'
...runs like a MoFo!!!

Now I just have to decide to go bigger...Precision 5858/injectors/tune....hmmmmm?????? It's plenty fast the way it is now! But a 07K is looking really nice…..!!!

Image

Well....had an "older fella" hit me in the Costco gas station line a couple days ago...BOOOOO!!!!
The long and the short...cracked my front bumper in 3 places and traded paint with me...the body shop is afraid they might damage the LLtek when pulling it off to fix the bumper properly....new front LLTEK and repaired oem bumper with fresh paint and license plate holes filled.

While the body shop is at it, I'm going to have them paint a couple of other peices....euro plate holder....my headlight washer delete trim from a 100.....and possibly the rear bumper.....shouldn't be too much more money….

So I finally received my new LLtek ....the old one is now for sale in the swap meet. Should be done by this time next week. Getting that and the "headlight wiper" deletes painted along with the Euro license plate panel...thinking about getting the rear bumper done as well....hmmm.

Finally......Back from the body shop....nice and smooth. LLTek installed...this install looks way better...debating on installing the side mesh or just leave the center mesh?

Front bumper smoothed out...no license place holes or depressions from rocks
Removed and replaced headlight washers with solid A6 pieces
The Euro license plate holder sanded and repainted

Painted..or do I say "dipped" the Ur this past weekend…Satin Gunmetal Silver. Came out great. I'm only doing this because my black paint has seen better days and this is a cheap/temperary alternative. Also, I plan on getting a fresh coat of paint next year sometime and I'm trying to decide to stick with black…….or……change the color to something like this…..?????

Also did the timing belt, water pump, tensioner fan assembly etc…what a PITA…but it's done.

Next up is suspension refresh with new rubber bushing/ Apikol poly including new control arms, motor/trans mounts, subframe bushings etc…then after that……..new CV/carrier bearings or a new driveshaft completely. Reman or and Aluminum 1 piece….?

I think the black looked fantastic. That said I will never dd a black car, looks great 10 minutes after you wash it the the dust sets in and don't get me started on swirl marks and scratches. I have 3 white cars and am happy about it.

I like the dipped color, would look better in gloss too imo.

Dace…yes black looks REALLY GOOD if it's new paint…but otherwise it gets dirty too easily. Hence my search for a new color or shade of what the dip color is…Yes…will most likely go gloss.

Now for the start of the suspension/drivetrain upgrades…
2-CV axles
Apikol rear subframe bushings
Apikol snub mount
2-Control arms w/new bushings / ball joints
4-Front subframe mount w/ poly Slater style 60-70A durometer
2-Inner swaybar poly bushing
2-Tranmission mounts w/poly
2-Thrust bearings for my 2B camber plates
4-Outer sway bar bushings
1-Speed bleeders for the rear to make the upcoming brake fluid change easier. Fronts are done.

Image

I also did a light coat of nightshades tint on the headlights to give it more of a stealthy look up front.

Well everything went great with the front end replacement of motor/trans mounts, subframe bushings, control arms etc.
Only took about 6 hours and not a lot of hassle…the only one being the motor mount under the turbo…the top of the bolt and the hex slot it fits into slightly deteriorated and was a sunnofabitch to get at. Most of the rubber was cracked / rotted and just needed to be changed out with some new stuff…

Here are the "usual suspects" …..

Next up is the rear subframe mounts from Apikol and a new rear driveshaft/cv's etc

Thanks…not as bad as I thought it was going to be….no rust or corrosion either….

Snubber question….Is the stock snub bracket good enough? Seems like you would have a lot of side to side and up and down movement because of it's oval shape ….or I thought about just fabbing up a round one up so that the snub fits in it like a glove….that needs a fix.

I already bought and returned those sway brackets too, our sway bar is more than just a normal sway bar.

I have the 034 snub mount and bracket, snub is very tight in on the mount and in the bracket. not sure if the Apikol mount will fit the 034 bracket though.

I wouldn't think there'd be much side to side movement; the engine should just go up and down with throttle input, no? You'd think the mount arms on the sides would have it locked down pretty snug for sideways motion.

That's what I figured, I'm just going to stop by the metal shop and pick up some round stock and weld it up for a more secure fit.

I did the snub bracket months after the mount. There was a huge notice in shifter gate feel.

After driving the Ur with new rubber and "Slater style poly bits"…WOW!!! I cant believe the difference was that big….nice and smooth. The shifting IS better and no more binding the front driveshaft CV from saggy ass motor and transmission mounts.

Got the snubber done….Just welded a 3" piece of mild steel into the stock mount and done!!!

Image

Does anybody have 1 or both of these laying around…..I lost one of each somewhere. The half turns for the skid plate - metal one and the plastic female clip for the plastic half turns…lmk…thx

Hey Andy, What rotors are you running with the 996 calipers? I just bought a set and am wondering what rotors I can run. I have the same car so any additional info would be appreciated.
