No time unfortunately. I knew this semester was goign to be nasty, but it is even worse than I anticipated. It really only needs the radiator installed after I pulled it to fix a small leak, and I need to figure out the brake issue I am having. It is not bleeding properly when I have the rear brakes hooked up. Something is goofy. I have run the car a few miles now. It appears I have 25psi by about 3550rpm, which is about a 450-500 rpm increase over the old 2.2L! I am amped. I am trying to close the deal on a billet 3076r that I want for track days, as I think spool around 3100 would be wicked on the track.

Thats awesome Hank. Like we talked about before, I think a billet 30r is perfect for a road-race 5-cyl. The 500 RPM improvement is impressive.

sweetness...good job man. In the far left of the pic I see your fuel gauge. Not that its too important in a car like this, but what sort of fuel economy do you with your "normal" driving? When commuting I get a bit over 20mpg gasoline. If I beat on the car it drops quickly.

With the 01e 6 speed I get mid 20s in town taking it easy and I have seen high 20s on the freeway on e85 and more on gas. Wot is a different story. With 5 1600cc/ min injectors, that is almost 8000c/min worth of fuel at full tilt. These new injectors at 4.5 bar base pressure flow close to 2000cc/min... I can use 9 gallons in a 20 minute session pretty easily and log maybe 30 miles. That's like 3mpg

Nearly 20 psi and that's with the 35r. I can't wait to see how the billet 30r will do with this engine!!!

That MPG is crazy - for the most part I don't care about MPG but my lowly somewhat RS2'd 3B only gets like 17 around town. About 25 on road trips.

what kind of timing do you see at cruise? I'm at 38-40 and i only saw 22.3mpg as my best on my trip.

I run more timing and leaner air/fuel than you are probably. With e85, I'll run at cruise up to 1.10 lambda and around 45-48 degrees of advance. EGTs climb slightly, but MPG return is significant. Hydrocarbon and nox also increase significantly, but I am on green fuel I am also closer to 10:1 compression ratio which increases the thermal efficiency.

Google "lean burn" coupled with e85 or gas for some interesting findings on how to increase economy...

Not so much for you Derek, but remember that I am basically the same drivetrain as the urS minus 1000 lbs of weight. I don't have the parasitic losses of the AC, and I run a smaller alternator than you guys do. The downside to the type 85 is that the aerodynamics suck and the squaring function makes MPG demenish quickly above 75mph. I can get close to 30mpg on e85 on the freeway at 75 and drop to low 20s at 100mph. This is the big reason why speedlimits are still rediculously low for the modern vehicle.

Is your tach reading correctly? If so, very nice. Does it still want to rev as high as the old one?

Peter, talking to him on the phone yesterday I asked the same thing. I don't think he has run it up to the 8.5k that the 2.2 ran, but he was saying in is every bit as willing to rev if not more so than the old motors which is saying alot. I'm excited to take it for a pepsi.

I don't have A/C and I'm pretty sure that the bit of weight difference between your car and mine is ultimately not a factor in MPG. My old A6 4.2 with the same trans (effectively same cruising rpms) would get 26mpg on the highway, that's twice the displacement and over 1k lbs heavier with better fuel economy.

My cruise fueling is just above stoich, mid 15's. I also don't think an alternator is worth a few mpg's on similarly built engines. either way, your mpg is nice if only I had easy access to E85 around here :(

Derek you probably don't have E85 there yet because the state would have to retrain all the attendants on how to pump alcohol! You know it's very corrosive.

Derek, you should be able to lean out a lot more with no negative results and even more with more timing (unless you already have a lot of advance there). I get 26 in the 200 pretty consistently without advancing timing (its conservative on cruise for now)... just running it at roughly 1.15 lambda.
