That's what I was expecting going in. I don't know if the rotors I used weren't correct or what but the bracket prohibited the rotor from seating flat on the hub. I had to grind down some of the bracket to allow clearance for the rotor. It works fine now though.

Thanks everyone!

If anyone was wondering, you can fit 18x9.5" ET 20mm wheels with 235 40 18 up front on maximum low with no rubbing issues. :D

So with shortened housings and re-valved struts how is it? How is the low? How is the damping?

The low is nice, verrrrrry nice. I have probably 1/4" left to thread down and I can just fit my flat hand in between the wheel and fender(front and back now). I still have plenty of ground clearance, getting out of my sloped driveway with a rounded curb isn't a problem. With #550 and #650 springs in front and rear respectively, It has very little squat when I take off quickly which is a dramatic change from before. I have very little body roll but am limited by the stock 200 seats...I start to slide in my seat mid turn so it limits how fast I can take them.

As for ride quality I've experienced better. With the car being low, stiff, and on thin tires it is no where near annoying or uncomfortable though. I can actually feel the paint lines in the road more in my 2010 KIA Forte Sedan more than the Audi. I thoroughly enjoy being able to feel every variation in the road though, so it may very from person to person.

It's probably as low as I'll ever take it, I don't want the oil pan any closer to the ground. I may consider building a plate to guard the bottom of the motor/belts from road debris soon. As stated before with 235 40 18 tires on a 18" X 9.5" et20mm offset wheel I have no rubbing, which is a shock to me.

I think the biggest problem/complaint about the ride is the lack of a rear sway bar. Going around turns you can really feel the back end move.

All in all this car has been extremely friendly with going low. I haven't had to notch any frame or make any dramatic changes that would sacrifice quality and safety.

The top strut mounts work well so far and I will keep updating how they are holding up and performing. My biggest concern with making them for sale is thateveryone has their own set up. My choice of top hat, shocks, springs, helper spring, etc may very and cause clearance issues which I did not design or allow for. If you PM specs(dimensions) of hats, etc of what you have I can check and see if other parts will work. I feel the A1 Racing hat is taller with a longer lead in and will fit better than the Bicknell hats, but you also lose .5" - 1.0" of low.

Oh and I personally think the 200 looks sexy with the wheel choice, fitment, and ride height. That's just me though. ;)

Been driving the 200 a lot this past week. Suspension feels great and handles very well.

Issues with the engine though. I have the overboost fuel cut set at 22PSI. I have the refD boost levels set to where it would hit about 18-20PSI. On several occasions it would hit 20 and start to hesitate pretty nicely, almost a sputtering. Is this detonation or am I having fueling issues/clutch slip?

Dude, car looks wicked. I would love to run a 9.5" but alas I think my front cup kit suspension would probably hit before then hah!

You know this, but check your plugs that will tell you everything. Check your mini boost hose!

Videos of said car ripping would be nice too.

What could be causing that?

I just recently replaced factory plugs with NGK BRK7E plugs gapped to a specification that amdisthebest said he runs. I will verify that it is gapped correctly.

Could it also just be a faulty wire telling me it's time to upgrade to coil packs?

What is the gap? I just had to regap my bkr7 iridiums. .028. More and I get misfire which I could fix with more dwell but that's a bandaid.

Or yeah a weak coil. What coils?

Have any logs? .024 should be fine. How many km on them? Mine opened up after a few thousand km.

I'd start looking at the rest of the ignition setup. A log would be nice but might not really show anything. Mine didn't. It was just a slight stumble/misfire. With pre-ign you wouldn't feel that.

I had big problems with my plug wires. I had some expensive ones from 034... Marc also carried them. I replaced them twice. They were defective every time. I put stock wires back on and 3-4 months of scratching my head and chasing ignition problems was gone.

Point is, the wires really do matter in this case. Old wires will allow the spark to arc right to the head. A pinhole is more than enough to do it.

I have maybe 500-700 miles on them. My odometer doesn't work so I can't be positive.

I can record one and post it later.

I figured I would 'treat yoself' to a new ignition system after graduation next week. So I'm hoping that will quell this issue. On that note, what does everyone run? LS2 coils, 2.0T coils? I need to convert from 3B Dizzy to AAN specs correct?

I would buy ls2 if I was in the market. My car came with 034 ho non TTL coils and I'm happy with them but I've had two failures. One right after the other. I need to pick up another spare...

Already sent a request to Marc to quote me for an LS conversion. I'm hoping to get the Holset on there within the next few months so I might as well have nice ignition to go with it.

Nick's 1991 Audi 200 20VTQ Avant

Post by amd is the best »

I switched from LS2 coils to 2.0T coils and they package great, look great and perform great. Mind you, my car developed some crazy misfire issues after three years of running the LS setup without an issue. Couldn't pin down the cause so I switched to FSI and couldn't be happier. Either one is a good choice but the COP's look sweeter IMO.

I think this is really the only logical decision if the plans are to keep the car for an extended time and keep building, I think i'd only give up the dizzy setup to go COP.

The plan all along was to switch at some point or another. It was just a question of when. Having issues under high boost is a pretty good reason for me to go ahead with it. It'll also let me utilize a few more features on VEMS.

So quick question - You are running VEMS on a stock k24 correct?

Have you thought to try to run E85 while keeping this stock setup? Something I was curious for myself in the interim…

I'm sure someone with more knowledge of e85 would be better to ask.

I was under the impression that the k24 would poop out at 20+PSI...

I also daily-ish drive the 200 now, the price of e85 would be a little high for not very much gain. I also would need to redo fueling system: bigger injectors, etc.

However, they just put an e85 pump in <0.1 miles from my house..
