Piston seals? For an HP2?

Igot them from rockauto. I just ordered seals for a 2002 Audi a6 4.2l. It was actually the easiest time I've had finding a complete set of parts for this thing. I even found guide rods new. I can provide part numbers and prices if you want.

Also, got a little more work done on strut plates.

They are done!

Waiting to paint them and I need to bore out the aluminum spacers once I get my shock bodies back!

I machined the plate on a HAAS CNC and turned the center housing on a HAAS Lathe. Did all in one evening and to within .005" tolerances.

My buddy TIG welded the parts so I can't take credit for that gorgeous feature.

I had to buy a carbide grooving tool but it worked flawlessly and the snap ring seats perfectly.

I will test fit these and make sure they work. Hopefully they do because it cost me a fraction of what it would've to buy 2Bennett. No caster adjustment though...oh well.

I don't even know if they work yet. :hide: Shocks arrive Friday so hopefully i'll know this weekend.
I also didn't think there would be much appeal on a non-caster adjustable mount? This was just my solution to NLA OEM strut plate with addition of a nice spherical bearing.

I'll make sure they work this weekend then.

If it's a go-

What ballpark is a good price point on these? I know I have raw material cost, parts, mills and inserts, and welding which I cannot go lower than, but what is something reasonable that everyone would agree is fair? I'm not looking to get rich, just making it worth my time. I already purchased a grooving tool, written programs and designed the part so that cost is null.

Thoughts?

Each mount is constructed of .25" 1018 Steel Plate, 2" 1018 Steel Round, QA1 Spherical bearing, Zinc plated snap ring, 7075 Aluminum bushings.

I'd say somewhere north of 200 and south of 300 is a good number for these. I know that the bearings alone are 1/3 of that cost, so keep that in mind when thinking about this guys.

Chris if I used Aurora bearings instead of QA1, it is roughly 84$ in the two bearings alone..

Come to think of it, If these do work I can always make that an option of the buyer and adjust price accordingly.

I'm fine with whatever the price is. these look to be a much sturdier design than the worn factory mounts, and I don't have to worry about destroying these just by driving on them. Should get me by for a while until I Decide to commit to Ground Control plates, hah.

Around $300 sounds good to me. I'll take them unwelded if it makes it cheaper.

Shortened strut housing anyone?? :D

The strut mount appears as if it is going to work. The Bicknell racing top hat I have seems to be pretty close to the mounting plate lip. I feel when the car is on the ground that angle will clear up though.

The brakes BARELY fit. The mounting bracket off the HP2s are extremely close to the rotor. Can't wait to see how these things stop.

I'm hoping to have it all together tomorrow.

Anyone have to mill off material on the caliper carrier? When bolted on the the housing, the rotor binds on the brake carrier.

The 200 is back in one piece! Drove over 25 miles tonight. New strut mounts held up and worked well, I may need to adjust the flange on the mount to insure that the hat is clear of contact.

I had to modify the HP2s to fit more than expected. They would contact the rotor while assembling. Shaved them down and they fit and work well.

Did you use 20v hubs or turned down UFO hubs? Mine cleared without an issue on the UFO hubs however on a car I just worked on with an HP2 conversion that used 20v hubs, it was VERY close.

I used turned down UFO hubs. My clearance issue was the bracket that bolts to the car.
