I know I know. Yea snow is okay as long as there's no salt. Unfortunately there is a crapload of salt everywhere :( not going to sacrifice the car for a little winter fun, have my A6 for that!

Frickin son-of-a-B.

SO, I had the car running and left to go help a buddy move and when I came back, I went to crank it over and it sounded like I snapped the t-belt. So I check it and it all looks ok, except for the fact that the damn key on the cam gear sheared off. :mad:

Fortunately for me, It did it during a low battery crank, rather than running. So I'm very hopeful that it didn't bend my brand new freakin valves.

EDIT: I guess this just expedites my adjustable cam gear purchase.

Damn, not cool.

However, I would say that failure is due to not tightening the cam gear bolt enough. The keyway should not be subjected to shear by design, the friction due to bolt torque is what should be holding it on there. This is the same story as crank some crank cog failures (not the cracked ones).

Ya, this is true. I did have it torqued to spec at the time, but I have also had it on and off a ton of times over the past year (I didn't air gun it on either). It could also be partially due to it being a an original component to the engine (this particular one had 200k+ when I got it) along with my high rate valve springs causing a bit more resistance in the valvetrain. Either way, I will be ordering a new adjustable one from Hank later this week.

Boom, Cam gear ordered from Marc. Once it gets here it will be game on (provided I'm not still in Reno meeting the GF's family for the first time)

Awesome. Marc is da man. So you picked up an adjustable cam gear? Are you expecting to pick up any power using it?

Ya, I'm getting the Tommis AAN adjustable one. I would like to see some power gains from it, but I won't explore that until I'm on e85. Right now I just want to drive the damn thing. I need to still get injectors, so I'm leery about boosting too much at this point because I have a finicky injector.

Eh, I don't think you are missing out on much! I can still get you a set if you want, but they are about 6 weeks out. They only flow ~75cc more and don't have an EV1 connector. In my opinion, the 1200 is the perfect injector for these cars. They are among the very best available on the market in terms of quality too (all Bosch are nice, but these are tanks).
