Hank has a company that does custom H-beam rods for a good price, I forget the name. Maybe he'll chime in or send him a PM.

You would be a fool to keep the MC crank if you are building a motor. No ACL rod bearing are available for that BE. Grab a 7a/NG/AAN/3b crank and build that up if you are hell bent on a 2.2, or grab a eurovan motor and just use it.. Shoot, I bet you could machine TDI pistons to get down to 10:1 pretty easily. I have 6 TDI tall decks here in the shop that I will probably just throw the rods and pistons away on. Jim Green has a Eurovan bottom end for sale in SoCAL and he will be up to Vegas in a month or so. I could get it to SLC after that pretty easily.

Of if you want to use a non ghetto bottom end, 236mm tall deck plus 159mm rods plus ABA pistons(preferably forged aftermarket) would get you what you want. As the only 20vt guy around, you are lucky, as there aren't as many mods needed to run a 20v head on a tall deck.

How much machining are we talking to get an MC head on a diesel block? What is involved? I have been considering finding the tall deck for some time now but I'm not sure whats involved with machine work

Not sure why 20v you'd want to bother with the diesel block when you can easily go with the gasser 2.5/20v. I have been saying its the way to go staying 20v.
