You're on motronic? Post up a log if you're on vems. If motronic... you'll need to go see Marc

Motronic it is. I went that way for the ease of initial setup and knock control, have wished numerous times since that I'd done VEMS instead.

roortube wrote:Today I retarded cam timing by a tooth to see what effect that had on spool...it was huge. Hit full boost almost 2000 rpm sooner. The car was turd slow though and felt like it was pulling timing. Any body have thoughts? I may head up to see Marc for a retune but its a haul and time is short now. I don't wanna go if there's not a really good chance that things will improve significantly.

2000 rpm you say? thats hard to ignore. Could be pulling timing due to knock control and overboost. your current n75 is programmed based on the spool curve I was seeing. if its trying to boost vastly earlier it might be cutting your n75 to zero to stop overboost when it spikes the first time. So, long and short of it, come see me.

Will come see you, but remember, there were issues with N75 response, so its on an MBC for now.

I can't recall, do you have the dyno on even or odd months?

meh, motronic is a very capable system. I'm pretty positive that the reason his n75 was freaking out was because under load his cam belt was slacking enough to trip the ECU's out of window fault code which as a byproduct cuts the n75. so, after this adjustment we can probably give him back proper n75 control.

even months. We are ordering another set of pods soon so we will have it full time. probably by March timeframe.

one thing you can do to give me some insight on the "good spool but slow as a stock s4" thing is to log ignition timing and knock retard with vagcom. the sample rate on the stock protocol is slow as shit but it should be enough to show me whats going on to cause it to be slow.

Would love to set something up for the next "even month" (February)... December is passing me by way too quickly & little odds/ends still need to be finalized on Rubí... Would be cool to 2 35r sized cars on the Dyno on the same day... Plus if my car breaks down on the Dyno, I can bum a ride with you back home, since you must past my town on the way... Not that I predict anything going wrong but you never know... So February?

weird. IIRC many of us guessed back in the summer that your cam timing was off, but you checked it multiple times and it was confirmed by some others as well no?

Are we assuming that "best" is the same as factory?

It was definitely 7 teeth up and 10 links across. Absolutely positive it was as per factory. Also strange that in dad's car it was a tooth retarded and when advancing we gained over 1k in spool.

You're right Matt, the only thing retarded other than my timing is me. I advanced and lowered spool. It may be a bit till I make it back up to see Marc as my wife is very pregnant with our 2nd child and first son, Eli. He's due right at the beginning g of April, but babies come early in my family. My daughter was 2 weeks early and I was 6. Unless I can make it up right at the beginning of February it won't be for a while after he's born. Considering I'd still like to revise my charge piping, turbo inlet, and install a Tial 50mm that I haven't acquired yet I dunno if that's gonna happen.

In other news, I've been fixing leaks that have cropped up...PS cooler hoses, aux coolant pump, block breather port, you name it.

For a few months I've had no high beams due to a turn signal switch damaged by jumping the car. Coupled with stock lenses and bulbs, lighting sucked. Tonight I installed relayed VVME 55w 4300k HIDs in the lows and fogs...wow. I can see now and life is good.

Fab work and timing changes took most of the day,.. these are just 3 initial runs to see where it stands before going full force again in the AM...

Yeah...now making 22psi by 4400. Marc is adding timi g and boost. Today has been rough. Fried an ecu, tore a waste gate diaphragm, found faulty n75...loads of hurdles. One pull it hit 40psi cuz I'm a dumbass and left the pressure signal off of n75. Didn't pop though. The curves are now looking the way every body expected.

Super sweet to hear... I popped the boost hose again in the same place on the way back this morning... Get me a better clamp from Marcs, I'll spot you when you swing by my town... (if you got time)
