Can't wait to drive it again :D

Image
After cleaning (they're was lot of rust inside..)

So the main problem seems to be the heating valve which blew off, the car lost all the water on a few meters .. the oil temp peaked at 160°C, some dropped by the radiator (hoses are very ugly) and the engine lost all its compressions during the very last meters.
My friend said the headgasket did not melt, so .. the breech / low engine ? (not sure of the translation) must be twisty .. since many years seeing the rust inside the engine ..
We'll see after the resurfacing ..

Now it's time to drive VAG's storeman crazy and buy shitload of stuff :D

The engine is still out of the car .. I was very surprised that those rims could handle the big caliper without spacers :wtf:

I'm running Textar pads + Zimmermann 323x30 rotors in front & standard TRW in the back (with oem calipers / rotors)
I think DS 2500 and Carbon Lorraine R5+ would be great, we'll see after some weeks of driving .. =)

Compressions issues, around 5b on each cylinders, the car can't idle and the engine just stop when warm but works great above ~1500rpm, we'll check that soon, she NEEDS to roll now :drive:

I'm driving the 136hp 90 fwd while waiting the big 4w(hale)d, it's cool too, on a dry weather / little roads, rallying mode ..

Here are some pics of the 90, she has now ~300 000kil and never let me down even during our cold winters (-25 -30C°) .. This engine (NG?) is ultra reliable and the car looks very good after 20 years in the snow / salt with just a little bit of rust on the rear passenger wheel arche
I offered her 2 Michelin in front, wipers, accessorie's belts, yesterday the exhaust ripped apart in front of the central muffler, the sound was just awesome .. I'm sure some neighbours wants to kill me now, 6500rpm with nothing behind the manifold is just so good

Nice cars. I was going to say that you should put in camshafts from a 7A engine. Those cams would go nicely with your other upgrades.

I'm lookin for a 7A exhaust camshaft for the 200 20v but it's quite rare here, anyway I'm not on a rush since the car has only ~300hp (chip lehmnann motors stage 1 + stainless exhaust) now, RS2 turbo (or something else I'm not sure yet) + manifold and injectors are coming next year ..

I can still enjoy the little 90 while waiting the 20v, my other 200 (1B) will be sold this afternoon, and I'll buy a 7A 90 quattro (4 doors) very soon to replace the old NG !

Well I have some news of my 220v !

I finally drove the car back at home, everything was cool during 160kil, what a pleasure  The car has now ~290hp with a stainless exhaust line, lehmann motor's chips and a stiffer wastegate spring (1.3b full boost in theory)

I have to fix the exhaust line, something moved and it's noisy now, also the car is higher with 4 Bilstein B8 and H&R -40mm springs than it was with stock suspensions O_o really weird.

The compression's problems were due to a bad manufacturing in the cylinder head (19 valve seats on 20 were leaking gas when we tested it after the second take off .........) It's scary because it's the only thing we let a "pro" do on the car :shame:
It took us 1 month to find out .. we changed the lifters just to be sure .. The valve seats were a bit ovalised after the heating and it's the only thing that was not tested :(

But everthing is cool now, will be even better after the wheel alignement and the grinding :)

(sorry for my english I use a translator for the technical term I hope everybody can understand what I talked about :/)

Your posts are totally readable, even the technical terms are pretty good!

So you're still on the stock K24 turbo as of now right? How much boost is the Lehman chip rated for/producing? I'm very jealous because even though mine is also an '89 we only got the 20v that year

I just wanted a stage 1 for this year, + a good brake (big red) and suspension (B8) upgrade, maybe new oem or semi polyurethane silent blocs later, so yes the engine is all standard except a RS2 headgasket and rod's bearing shells.

I did not push hard on the way back, I think I'll drive ~500kil on easy mode (3500/4000rpm max) before an oil change, but the stock turbo has a very quick response with those new chips and it's very important here b/c I drive on mountain's roads with lots of curves ! The friend who sold my the 2 chips told me they should produce 1.1b with a stock spring and ~1.3b with the new one, I'll see that later with the new oil and everything (it's on 10w40 now .. not very good :/)

I'm not sure on what I'll do next year, was thinking about a K24 7200, RS2 injector, gas pump, Wagner manifold .. but I will buy a 90 7A quattro very soon so ......... this swap thing is really .................. interresting ................................ :P
The 90 is in perfect shape, and my 3B is fully fonctionnal .. maybe I could adapt my big red on the B3 chassis, that would be so bad/fun

The 44 has something special for sure but I was wondering about a 44 with an improved 7A .. and a 90 B3 with a 3B/RS2 .. (also I have a friend who sell a spare 3B)

It would be a lot of work and I'm not sure on how to implant the kjet inside the 220 ..

The thing is that a B chassis is stiffer than a 44, lighter, and more adaptative to modifications :/

Anyway I will drive it some months during winter / spring / summer so I'll see .. I'm looking for Rotiform BLQ or something like that, I love the design :P A 100 S4 rear end with an anti roll bar would be fun, maybe V8 torsen + I'm 90% sure to finish the RS2 conversion before mid 2014 so I have some parts to purchase .. It's a never ending story, you know what that I mean :)

I bought a new car today, 90 B3 1990 7A Quattro, with speedline rims (+ a set of ronal) and spax suspensions

196 000kil, clutch and timing belt are brand new (10 000kil) and I will find very soon some good stud tires :P

Re: Clem's Audi 200 20v 89' stage 1 / new car !

Post by Clem86 »

Some news, the 7A performs very well, I bought Michelin X-ICE XI2 NORTH 185/50/15 with studs and they provide a load of grip, I expect to make some video(s) during this winter !
I blew off the turbo on my 200 3B after ~700kil with the new chip and stiffer wastegate spring, looks like the WG had an issue and the turbo spooled too quickly .. I know the spring is not super stiff, just a bit more than the oem one but I'm not sure if I will keep it ..

So now the idea is to buy a cheap K24 to use the car this winter along the 7A, and purchase the last parts for the RS2 conversion ..
-Wagner RS2 exhaust manifold
-K24 7200 (GT28 .......? :D )
-Big intercooler
-RS2 injectors ?
-RS2 gas pump ?
-new wastegate ? (screamer pipe ? :P )
-Rear sway bar (C4 S4 sport chassis)

What do you guys think ? 350-360hp would be great, I don't need a dragster but a car usable as a daily / street racer with a good chassis.
Also I had a little problems with suspension's springs (H&R -40mm)
The car is absolutely not lowered with those springs + Bilstein B8, I think it's even higher on the rear .. What type of springs do you use on your T44 ? I'd like the car to be lowered about 40/50mm maximum .. -> Eibach catalogue ?

Image

edit : I have a friend who has an issue to register on the forum .. if an admin could have a look please !

Nop not at all, when I watched for a new set of suspension I wanted a light lowering, 20/30mm (Bilstein B6) but I only found H&R -40mm springs so I went on B8 ..
That's why I'm now thinking about Eibach short springs from the catalogue (if I remember, that's what Nick and Casey did ?)

Also I have a friend who is disappointed of his Kw v1 coilovers, he says they are weak on trackday so I tried Bilstein quality :/

If Chris had a dollar for every time he suggested coilovers.... :D

In all serious though, consider it. He convinced me and I don't regret it at all.

Some kind of Bilstein B10 ? I'm not against the idea of coilovers even if it would be hard to sell my B8 but it's not all about the stance, I want the car to be safe and driveable .. Right now it's not really the case, she has a tendancy to follow the road and I have to correct it very often ..
The thing I don't get is why -40mm springs sets the car higher than with oem .. even if my old suspension was quite in bad shape, this is really strange

I'll take a look on coilovers to see if there is something nice, damn I may need some extra hours at my work .. :P

I blew a tire, damaged a rim, and almost broke my thumb during this weekend .. I can't wait to see what will happen to me this saturday :wtf:

Otherwise the car runs really great, suspension is stiff (front link-bar intalled on top of the Mc Phersons), ride is great with 17" Pirelli P Zero Nero GT, braking is tremendous and the engine .. it's an incredible pleasure, shitload of torque, pulls really hard even on 4th, can't wait to buy the missing part (k24 7200 / Wagner exhaust manifold / RS2 injectors / stiffer silent blocs) :D

Some pics of the last parts, RS2 exhaust manifold, injectors & turbo

Image

The mani has a little crack on the 4th cylinder .. I'm not sure if it's a problem or not, since it's very thin

Image

Car runs great but consume tons of gas, my chips are shitty but it's okay for now .. Handling is really interresting, with firm Bilstein and front link-bar, the direction is very stiff but the rear wants to play a bit without anti sway bar :D

Also I should order some Eibach springs, or maybe use old ABT's I bought to a friend .. H&R are not very good, and the car is still has high as ever despite them being 40mm lower :/
Braking is always on top, even if my front rims are dirtyer than ever, those big red really does the job !

I'll use the stock intercooler at start, shame there's no room in front of the car .. I'll see if it's possible to use a bigger one later

I'm not sure on which gas pump I should use, stock ? RS2 ? :/
