GrayGoose89's 1jz Supra Build Thread... STANDALONE, POLISH,
Re: GrayGoose89's 1jz Supra Build Thread... Coils, Tint, Exh
You're going to have to convert an S4 to an RS4 most likely man. I think that would be the most cost effective in the long run, a true RS4 requires some pretty deep pockets to get here in the states.

I believe the white car just had the body panels. Not an original rs4. Almost all of them in the states are.

I'll just leave these here....Ben's widebody avant and Josh from Quattroworld's genuine RS4 and S6 avant
All are pretty awesome to see in person which thankfully I've had the pleasure of doing.

Re: GrayGoose89's 1jz Supra Build Thread... Coils, Tint, Exh
So, after about 3 years of driving the stock 1jz at 9psi i got a lot more power hungry and decided to get into the motor a lot more.
First, a little background on the 1j. From the factory these were well built. Aluminum heads, Forged internals, and all metal gaskets able to handle really big numbers on the stock long block.
With the reliability of the motor i figured id shoot for 550whp - 650whp as a finished project. To do so there were quite a few supporting mods that i would need to get there. I researched Piggyback, and standalone systems and decided to fork the cash for full standalone. My trans (R154 5spds) are also very strong transmissions but there were a few parts that were less than amazing. The shift forks, would wear down along with the syncros which mine had done. Stock injectors were only 380cc which was a little disappointing considering the single turbo 7M motors had 440's. In the process of doing my swap and replacing the power steering line to adapt to the LHD setup, the banjo bolt stripped the box so i had a slight leak in the rack for some time. and I was tired of running around with no power steering. Among those upgrades i got a few other things.
Purchase
1. AEM V2 Standalone ECU
2. R154 Rebuild kit (Billet Aluminum 1-2 Shift fork, upgraded syncros, upgraded Nachi bearings, hardened urethane bushings. Upgraded Thrust Washer.)
3. AT THE TIME Siemens Deka 650cc injectors, Sard FPR, Fuel Rail (I later sent those back and got different setup)
4. AEM Wideband w/ Failsaife
5. AEM Serial Gauge
6. New Power Steering Rack.
7. Braided Oil pressure sending unit adapter hose.
8. 200 Amp alternator (upgraded from stock 100amp)
9. Big front mount intercooler with universal piping (just until i buy fab'd piping for the big single)
10. Stainless Spark Plug Cover Alan bolts.
To purchase the above i had saved up for a little while. For work I've been selling pest control during the 4 months of the summer for the past 6 years. Its tough work but i make enough to pay for the other 8 months of the year with school, bills, etc... So my excuse to my wife for purchasing all this is it's my reward to myself after a stressful summer of selling, haha.

This was the first setup i was going to go with for Injectors. The Sard FPR was crap and the upper nipple threads were stripped. and to make matters worse after i got everything back together the car was misfiring quite badly. Went through a bunch of diagnosing and come to find out like half the injectors were just crap. so returned the Sard FPR, and the injector junk and stuck with the stock FPR, Rail, and Injectors for the time being.

So back up to Oregon to work in my parents shop and visit for a week. I figured while i was doing some work to the Engine i'd dress up a few things to clean up the engine bay.
These are the befores of all the parts i took off to be polished.

Starting out, i wanted to get rid of a lot of the casting marks so i used a file to shave the heavy stuff off.

And polished up (still before final aluminum/mag polish)

Power Steering Reservoir After

All the parts almost finished up

I removed a large casting line that went all the way along the top of the IM giving it a cleaner look.

And finally back installed on the car.

My first load up of the ECU and playing around with software. Getting a lot better feel on tuning now.

Wideband and Serial Gauge

Installed the intercooler with 3" piping. Going with this setup till I get a molded kit for big single.

After getting everything installed and the VERY TIME CONSUMING polishing i didnt have enough time to do the rebuild on the transmission and i figured i'd wait until i purchased a Clutch, Flywheel, Pressure Plate setup. It was off to my tuner, KaizenSpeed (KStuned) in Kennewick, WA. Even just running the base MAP the night before the car had a lot more pull and pep to it. About 6 hrs later after getting all the driveability stuff worked out, replacing some plugs and turning up the boost a little. It was time for the numbers pulls.

And the Dyno sheet.

Well, this is where i'll probably end for tonight. Been working on gathering the stuff together and writing up this post for a couple hrs now. Hope people enjoy, cause there is more to come.

Wow, that is a lot of polishing and it looks awesome! Great looking car in general, I love the roots of this project as I forever wanted a Supra after seeing the one in the original F&F movie. First a MKIV and now I'm actually partial to the MKIII's and yours is a gorgeous example. Anyways, just wanted to stop in and say sweet car and thanks for putting more Supra content in my life

Ya thats exactly how i started out. wanting an MKIV SOO bad, (pretty sure i shared the purchase story in the beginning. i originally didnt like the body of the MKIII's but i've seriously grown to LOVE them and have a real appreciation for older cars.
loxxrider wrote:Nice polishing and nice numbers. Keep it coming.
Thanks. Seriously like 3/4 of my time for the week i was working on the car was devoted to polishing. then again i didnt have all the nifty tools to make it go quicker. it was all by hand.
chaloux wrote:NEED MOAR NUMBERS!
Already has moar numbers.
but i'm trying to stay disciplined and post along the time line. haha. There is plenty more to come from her.
