Single turbo v6

Post by quattro »

If one was to run a single turbo on a 12v mounted on the side what size would the cross over pipe need to be? Also what effect would it have running a cross over pipe and single turbo opposed to twins? I prefer the idea of a single as it makes intake, oil lines and intercooling piping a lot easier

As small as possible to keep velocity up, what are your power goals? I would guess 2-2.25"

It would just have stacked gaskets to start with so probably limited to about 300hp. With pistons and rods I cant see 450hp ish being a problem

What chassis is this in?

Didn't Natrix run into packaging constraints with this swap and end up going rear mount?

Would be in a b4. Seeing as there is a cq with a single turbo 30v I think there should be plenty of room with a 12v

Yep, he never posted any pics, but there was a guy on MG who started a single turbo V6 in a B5 chassis thread. IIRC he made a custom IM.
The turbo was mounted behind the IM next to the firewall. It might work in a B4 if you are willing to move all the wiring mounted there and reshape the firewall.
Its real tricky I think.

And natric's thread:

Mounting it like that is not possible in a b4. The steering rack and arms are in the way

Flip the exhaust manifolds and put it on the front of the motor behind the grill. Use a short/wide radiator below it (Jeep Grand Cherokee might fit the bill from my research and aftermarket aluminum ones are available). Core is 31"x11" which should fit niceley below the headlights with an RS2 bumper. I'll probably try this route out for the next rendition of my cooling system with the V8.

Sounds like a decent solution, but where would you put the AC rad and IC? Would the turbo fit behind the AC condenser?
