You know how I roll. This will be installed on the stock block...only temporarily and only low boost. I will be assembling my spare block in the meantime.

Lol, my fiance hated my '89 20v with no headliner and rediculously loud exhaust, she was OK with the wagon when I bought it, but now I think she actually prefers riding in the wagon over my 540i... which is on fairly stiff coils and has tints and black headliner/interior (it can feel a little claustrophobic, I like it, lol), plus I tend to be a bit more smooth with the clutch in the 200 (probably still more used to audi clutch than BMW clutch).

Got the 3076 off and am working on removing the exhaust manifold. This is a first for me... Most of the nuts came off without an issue, three studs came out in good shape and one stud was broken. Now one nut/stud remains and for those of you who have removed the stock manifold probably know exactly which one is still on there. Ok enough suspense, the one right below the turbo flange! WTF...of course that one stripped because I couldn't get a socket on it.

What is the best plan of attack here? I removed the engine mount arm to make some more room but have no idea how I'm going to get at this thing. Calling it quits for today.

Have you looked into nut splitters? Its a carbide chisel attached to a nut that you tighten and will spit the nut. That would hopefully allow for you to remove the manifold and get at the stud.

I had this happen on the water manifold on the head. I eventually had to just use drills and slowly remove the material.

So excited for this next phase nick!

Those copper nuts are fairly soft, if you can get an angle might be able to hammer a smaller english socket onto it. if not I'm with the above, angle grinder or sawzall the nut off and throw a pipe wrench on te remaining stud when the mani is outta the way.

a 12mm box wrench will not grab it at all. 11mm won't go on to it. It's in the most terrible location too, hard to get anything in there.

I'm probably going to cut it off with a small dremel cut wheel.

I could try that though I have very few SAE tools, lol. I'll swing by my fathers shop and see what I can come up with.

Side note, anyone know the stock fuel line size? Is it 3/8's?

pretty damn sure it's 3/8th's I know I said this but I literally went through the same thing with a bolt in an equally hard place (Lower mounting bolt on g28/g4 bracket) I bought a mini dremel and used these sanding barrels. The cutting wheel is fine but the barrel eats way more material and you just need to hold it in one place and it will work its way down to where the head and bolt threads meet. The only annoying thing was the battery died pretty quick.... I probably would have used a plug in version had there been an outlet within 3000ft of my car.

i use an air hammer applied tangentially to the stripped nut to get it spinning. Works about 75% of the time in this situation. Its a bit of a challenge because its hard to finesse the air hammer. Might be worth a shot.

Well, finally pulled the trigger on a bottom end through Hank. I will no longer be able to brag about my stock this and stock that, lol.

DM I-Beams
Wiesco 92mm 9.5:1 pistons w/rings
Calico coated main/rod bearings
An Iroz downpipe for my SQ manifold
Tial MVR gate and adapter kit (from stock WG flange)

The head stuff will come in phase two later this winter. It will consist of:

Ferrea +.5 valves
Ferrea springs/retainers/locators/etc
New seals
Cat Cams

Then fuel (FML)
Some 2000+CC (ID/FIC/FID/etc)
Some dual pump setup

Chipping away at it :)

So, some pics:

Finally got the stock exhaust manifold off (though now it doesn't matter too much as I am building my spare block anyway). Here's what I had to deal with:

And with my buddy's ancient looking GT35R:

You were the last one here that didn't make me feel that I HAD to upgrade everything. :D
