01E VSS with Vems

Post by Zerb »

So. I've got this nifty AIM Strada for the VR build in my Audi and I want to run as much info into the vems as I can so that I can display it on the dash. How exactly does one go about using the stock 01e VSS and dumping it into the vems so that I can have it displayed on the dash? I tried every possible trick I knew to get it to work with the autometer speedo I used to have, and I failed each and every attempt.

the Motronic PnP ecus come with the circuit to read the stock sensor built in, but if you have an early one it might not be setup that way.

It can be added, basically how it works is it uses a 5n1 zener to 'clamp' the output from the VSS (which is a VR type sensor) @ 5v, turning the signal into a square wave. Some details here on the circuit:

they also used to make a cable that has the necessary electronics inside of it, I have one here I can sell you. it needs to go inside the ecu, though if your vems doesn't have any of the circuitry inside of it yet.

Thanks for the response Marc. I guess this is going to end up being a little more involved then i originally thought here. i was thinking it would work based off of what aaron did with his autronic SM4, but it seems as if i thought wrong lol.
