Clem's Audi 200 20v 89'

Post by Clem86 »

Hello everybody,

I found this forum some weeks ago while chasing some informations about Nick's 200 after I saw his launchcontrol and 3" exhaust videos (who wouldn't ? :hail: ). I was astonished by the boost the car could produce, and even more when I saw his engine was (almost) stock o_o.

I decided some months ago to upgrade a bit my Audi 200 20v, but I never thought it would be so
- hard to find good sport parts to fit this car
- hard to find people who already did this type of upgrades on that old lady (not so old)
- hard to resist to make a nice set-up on mine

Sooo I'm a (random) 26 french guy who don't know much about mechanic, I leave between 850m and 1200m height (something like 2800 and 3900 feet) near Switzerland !
I don't know much about mechanic, but I always loved to drive various cars on our little mountain roads, and when the time for my first car went, I didn't know much about which type of car I'd like to drive.
One day my mum said they're was an old Audi along the road where we always roll to get in town, and I wasn't paying much attention even if I like the shape and everything on that car. I searched more on this white-little-boat and when I saw she has a 5cylinders 2.2e I really knew I want it :D
3 years later I bought a (claret ? burgundy ?) Audi 200 20v (200ch - 161Kw) to get more fun, but the car was falling apart, and even if I had great time with it, it wasn't reliable to be a good daily car, and so I take my 90 (again) through summers and winters.
Lately this year, when lookin again to buy a new car, I found this 20v 3b in the middle of the France, not really cheap but very clean and she only has 2 owners (the last kept it during 16 years) before me :D

Again, just like with my 300 000kil 90, I KNEW

The engine is very strong, the car is a deadly beige arrow in the snow even if she's heaaaaaaaaavy, the interior is almost as clean as it's possible to be after 24 years and 200 000kil, and the turboooo woaw I love that :D

Some pics

And a random pic because we all love that

So as I said I planed on some "minor" improvements to make everything better, and maybe some tracks (Nurburgring Nordschleife ? :flag: )

1st, I'm purchasing Bilstein B8 Spring, H&R -40mm springs and I wish I could find anti roll / sway bar (maybe later).

2nd I searched a lot about Big Red (important keyword here :D)
I found nice calipers online, maybe Pagid pads, Audi A8 323*30 rotor and new hoses, I've got almost everything I need and I'm gonna buy them very soon.

3rd, this one is for you Nick ! After I saw how HugE that engine was, I really (really really) thought about gaining more power of that 5cyl. I'll buy an Ultimot.de or 034 Chiptuning Stage 1 soon after my new suspension/brake are okay, a strong wastegate's spring, and maybe later a RS2 manifold, maybe a 7A exhaust camshaft.

My goal now is to get the car to something like 300hp, with very strong brakes and suspension, cause it's not about dragster or top speed here but more about curvy roads and snow :).

Almost everything is planned, I'll buy the various parts during the summer and ask a friendly mechanic to fit them inside :D

:ty: for reading

(I love those emotes  :boom: :punch: :bangshead: )

And please excuse my english :drive:

Welcome to the forum!

You live in a very beautiful part of France. I have been to Les Deux Alps and the surrounding area a few times. The drive up to the village is quite impressive...and a bit scary if you aren't the one driving hahaa...

That's a clean looking car you have there, and you've come to the right place for information on what works as far as performance upgrades go.

Thank you !

I actually live on the other side of the Switzerland (search for Lac Saint Point and Mont d'Or on google image it's really nice too :D)

I'm sure this is the place to be to get good information even if I don't plane a thousands-horsepower-setup :D

I'll try to make some videos when my car will be ok, you'll see how cool the place, the roads and maybe the snow are :)

I forgot to say I bought ASA AR1 Silver rims (17") and random Pirelli PZero (as a test) !

Thanks for posting here! Nice car and good plans. Also, your English is quite good!

One thing to note... don't buy an 034 chip. Those guys can't tune for anything.

Hey,

Ultimot's chip seems better anyway, they also sale a better map sensor, so the kit looks fine.
I just can't wait to put everything inside my 44.. :D

Which rear braking did you plane on your revver project ? I have not much ideas to replace the oem caliper + 269mm rotor, but I don't think it will be necessary, cause the car wont produce tons of power. The only thing that troubles me is the master-cylinder, I'd like to be sure it can handle the 993TT Brembo with enough fluid to stop the rear too ..

I don't really have any plans for the real calipers. The car stops just fine for me because it isn't a race car for now. If I do track it, I'll consider it!

Cool thank you,

I saw Edigreg has some rear Carrera calipers on his car, but I'm considering to keep 269mm rotor's on mine, I'll see after some track session I guess.
By the way I love your cars Loxx :D Your Audi's project is awesome, and I always loved the shark-style of the old 6 Bmw, they're really expensive here in France but what a nice ride .. !

Thanks! I love cars too much. They're always keeping my wallet open :)

Ed's car does have those nice big calipers on it, but it kinda stinks not having a parking brake. If you are definitely going to use it at the track, then it might be a good idea, especially with the big reds up front. I'd try some good pads and fluid out before that though.

You're right I forgot about parking brake .. ><

Well .. for now I think I'll just paint my OEM calipers in dark red .. :D
Did you searched some racing brakepads ? I found nothing but FERODO FDB222 and Brembo P 85 013, which are not that sporty ..

Everybody (with good taste :D) loves typ44 !

Too bad my photos are so pixellised, it always happens when I try to reduces them :/

Random questions :

Do I need to buy new bushings to fit my B8's ?
Which type or exhaust / modification should I do to change the tone of my car ? I threw away the central muffler so it's sounds really cool but I still can't hear the engine from the inside when windows are closed :/ What you think about that ? Full inox ? Minor modifications ?

I buy stuff to CAC in Luxemburg, and Ultimot in Germany, I'll get a low price chiptuning soon by a friend .. but yeah shipping must be very long with 034 .. damn ocean :D

I'm looking to buy ASA AR1 (stocks are almost empty) / BBS CH or Azev Type A (really hard to find in 17") rims .. b/c I had a misunderstood with my mechanic
I told him to search for ASA AR1 which have the same frame than Rial Nogaro .. and he ordered Rian Norano :( But they're cool anyway, the car looks nice

But yeah you should be able find a good chip in Europe easily not sure I'd go with Ultimot I've read they aren't great either also their prices seem inflated.

Yes Ultimot's prices are very high, the stage1 valve's spring is too tight and I heard their chips are not very good ..

I bought their 323x30 big red brake kits, maybe not my best idea but I was tired to search real Brembo calipers since 2 months .. prices are high, shipping too .. so at least I have everything now !

More pictures coming next weeks after everything will be put under the car :)

Time to throw some money into that bay :wtf:

RS2 headgasket, RS2 various joints, RS2 bearing shells, heating valve (all the water escaped from that old shit), timing belt + water pump, new water radiator, probably an oil radiator too (i had some loss directly from it's hoses, just in front of the front right wheel), new clutch, S3 dump valve, stage 1 chiptuning + stiffer dumpvalve spring ..

Next year : K24 7200, exhaust manifold, maybe new injectors, some home made link-bars, maybe a S4 rear train with anti roll bar :o
-----> ~350hp with a nice chassis / suspension / brakes :P
