Recommended oil for first engine start/break-in?
Recommended oil for first engine start/break-in?
First start should be tuesday...will be using the moto man method but curious what weight oil folks recommend. I usually run 5w-40 amsoil but obviously will not be using synthetic for the first thousand miles or so.

Bran Penn break-in oil.... its green.

myself, i add one bottle of ZDDP and also 1/2 to one bottle of Hughes Extreme Pressure additive (its blue) after the initial breakin, but i run it for a heat cycle, then shut it down. i pour the Hughes and ZDDP over the cams with breakin oil in the pan, and then button it up, fire it up, and let it run. warm up, hold it at 2k rpm or so for a minute or two, then let it rest. put it in the trailer, take it to the dyno, and make 700+ AWHP right off the bat.
depending on the "newness" of the motor i will use the additives on the breakin. my car is a drag-only car, and i beat on it pretty hard. i change the oil about every 3 races or so, maybe 20 miles MAX?
and while i run it, i use Valvoline VR-1 20W-50 synthetic oil. its spendy, but it has the right stuff included. i buy it buy the 6 pack on Amazon is where i find it cheapest.
