DIY PS Hose Rebuild?

Post by B. Rock »

Spent some time tracking down a pentosin leak this weekend, and the culprit ended up being a pinhole leak on the high pressure PS line running from the pump to the bomb (90 CQ). Was wondering if folks had any luck using Aeroquip parts, Earls, or anything else to rebuild these in the garage. If all else fails I'm sure there's a shop around that will rebuild them or the hose shop in Spokane, but they seem so simple...

Thanks

With HP hose you're likely to buy a few dollars worth of tools, so the decision to make is if you want to get into redoing them all on your own.

Pretty easy, but takes time, tools and patience to get the job done right. Youtube probably has some walkthrough vids.

Shops can charge a lot in labour but if you only have one job to redo it's usually best to go to a pro, keeping in mind the tool cost vs time differential in mind here.

In my opinion.

Looks easy to me

We need the proper flaring tool but everything else is pretty common. The Earl's hose is rated to 2,250psi operating and 9k burst. The only question I have is about any OEM restrictors.

Let's do it 8-)

I need to figure out where my leak(s) are but over time I'd like to replace all the hoses and reservoirs :geek:

Had the same problem on a friends PS line on his mk4 golf.

We cut the rotted section and replaced with a flared piece of brake line and a compression fitting. Still holding great and we didn't have to touch the subframe.
