Re: Ed's 1992 UrS4 "da fridge": Fuel system parts...
Finally had some time to start the fuel system build this weekend... Of course now it's only 5 days until Carlisle, not sure that this will get done in time but I'm going to try. It is a lot of plumbing and wiring and I am seriously low on time this week.
The first step for making the new fuel system work was relocating the hydraulic fluid reservoir so that the surge tank could take it's place in the engine bay. Fab'd up some brackets on Saturday.
IE surge tank came with some nice mounting tabs on it, but wouldn't work in my situation so off they went.

Bolt locations used for the OE reservoir bracket are perfect, so I reused them. Although I am a bit concerned about the weight of the tank once it is full of fuel + the weight of 2x 044 pumps - It is solid but I might add another mounting point on the front at some point.

Also needed to figure out mounting solutions for the new PS res and Weldon FPR... more brackets.

Then I replumbed the hydraulic system to use the new reservoir, converted everything to AN hoses/fittings. Catch can might have to be moved over a bit to make room for all of the fuel lines that will be going through that area.

Mock up of the FPR mounting location - JUST enough room there to fit everything on the strut bar and clear the OE feed/return lines... fuel pressure sensor sticks off about 3", fits right under the lines.

nice work! Looking good!Re: Ed's 1992 UrS4 "da fridge": Fuel system build...
Cant wait to romp around in this. Better break the seat adjuster so you can claim that hte seat doesn't move forward for my stubby legs.
Re: Ed's 1992 UrS4 "da fridge": Fuel system build...
Ed, why did you mount the surge tank in the engine bay?

I don't think I'm getting this fuel system done in time unless I/we crank it out on Thursday night/Friday morning!

The entire purpose for this setup is so that I can retain the OE fuel lines under the car/etc.

This guy, man!
1. Knows he doesn't have time to complete car
2. Devises plan to lure hank into helping, says he'll pick hank up
3. Completes half the work, posting photos
4. Suckers hank into helping complete the build
5. ????
6. Profit

Re: Ed's 1992 UrS4 "da fridge": Fuel system build...
LOL genius!
In all seriousness I don't like to rush these things, especially a big project like this one. Good thing is I can continue to work on it while leaving the OE rail in place, and if I get it done in time just connect the new system. It's nothing hard, just plumbing AN lines, but the wiring will be a bit of a pain in the ass.

so what are the limitations on the stock fuel line?

In this setup I would say a vast improvement than pushing a twin pump through the OE lines from the OE pump position...
I've seen stock OE lines get into the mid 500whp range depending on type of fuel used...

About 400-450whp when running E85 with a single 044 in-tank. It is RPM dependent as well as boost dependent - you'll be OK at torque peak around those power levels but you'll lose fuel pressure above 6,500 rpms or so.
If you're running pump gas you won't have as much of an issue, but pump gas sucks.

Some of us don't have that option, unfortunately... so we're left with making more power on pump using our stock lines vs e85 on stock lines

I'd love to actually... but there's gotta be more than just e85 at available at the pump... I've thought about it long and hard Ed, I just can't seem to justify it yet...

What kinda of Lambda targets are possible with E85?
