I can't comment on the swap linkage in a B2/3/4 however I can say for sure that the B5 S4 linkage is HORRIBLE. The shifter setup in my T44 with the 01E feels FAR superior to the B5. It doesn't even feel like the same transmission.

The b2 linkage is basically idential to urS linkage, so the feel is basically the same.

Yeah, I'd love to have the 016 ball if you have it.

I'm still going to do the b5 style in the urq. I'll try to isolate it and then well see whos got a shitty shifter you snarky bastards.

Also jhm stuff makes the shifter so much more..."intimate".

JHM linkage has scored me 2 "locked up transmissions" that were really just JHM linkage breaking :)

No the JHM stuff works well. It helps get the rubber out of the feel of the b5-6 shifter setup.
