Figured i would go back a year or so and catch my project up to date

Bottom end painted (choosing a color was the hardest part of the build) and assembled
Image

Head back from the shop all shined up with pricey parts added :P
Image

and finally engine back in... after a few hours fighting with a leaky harbor freight engine hoist that won't maintain height
Image

Bought a V8 rear diff which cam with a bunch of bolts seized with their head cut off. after trying a bunch of options welding a piece of mild steel to the bolts worked slick. still need to rebuild or re-seal the V8 diff which i will probably do at the same time i re-assemble my 6-speed EDU
Image

Oil cooler and air cowling visible in this pic... I will most likely move the oil cooler to the drivers side with the new turbo setup. Driving around with this look really seems to scare other drivers :hide:

Pretty stoked to see what the GTX 3071 will do on your engine - what kind of onset and power/torque curve are you expecting?

goal will be to test case for the claims for the gtx. spool like a 3071 and hopefully make 440+ at the wheels.

On pump? Hopefully bigger than "RS2" injectors too...

Justin is a smart dude, he has all the components to make this thing 440whp capable.

I think 440whp on pump might be a tad bit of a stretch, but I think 400whp on pump is doable. I think 450whp is doable iwth a lot of boost on e85 or exotic fuel.

yes yes bigger injectors, bigger fuel rail and lines if necessary and most likely have a tune for e85 and one for 100-o

Awesome. This is reportedly a "lazy" turbo on the 1.8T but should have a nice broad power-band with your extra cylinder… can't wait to see how it does :)

Everything is lazy with 1.8L worth of displacement in a 3500 pound car :)

took some time off this week to do the downpipe and oil/water lines ...

Image
downpipe is only tacked in this picture but I finally came up with a purge setup for my TIG welder and did the main welding last night... the flex coupler took forever and with purge gas i need more argon now :(

still waiting on more parts to fab & tack up the wastegate provisions.. once i get more gas ill add some o2 sensor bungs as well.

question for you experienced welders how many tacks should i make on the vband flange to keep it from warping, i have 4 now and am thinking 8 or 16?

6-8 is enough, I would just make sure you weld the flange with it attached to the hotside and the clamp tightened down really well. This will ensure that the flanges doesn't walk around.

Setup looks really nice.

Did you find 10mm tube nuts or did 3/8 look good?

Are you .63 or .82 AR?

.82 housing. For the water line i was unable to find tube nuts but i am thinking change in plans and have a -6AN male silver soldered to the tube itself.. cheaper than buying a tube nut and metric flare kit also the downside is i have to remove it to take to a hydraulic shop

Getting that line out is kind of a pain but that is a good plan
