Isn't this your car being shamelessly used by ebay vendor?
BTW nice work on the IC and sorry to hear about your t-belt skip, I am sure you'll have it back better than before in no time.
Cheers

i think everyone should know that this failure is my fault
no not sabotage, but i was in the area during a work trip and visited derek and he was anxious to give me a ride in his car before he went back to oregano.
long story short i guess he lost track of what was happening and the little guy fell in the tb area.
so anyone who wants can lay waste to me.

ja, they are using my car. that came up sometime last year and i called them on the phone, asked if they were gonna give me royalties for using my car and the rep. stopped laughing and got his superior, and he said they could take it down, but i figured, have them put my name on it so anyone can google it and see my work. free advertising as i see it
and no, i don't want any of their crap to put on my car

actually, i drove the car saturday for four hours round trip, two full weeks after you were here

the offending piece of metal came into existence on sunday. it's completely my fault, but it sucks that much more
anyhow, i'm over the downer, pieces are coming together, and she'll rip again soon!derracuda wrote:the_natrix wrote:i think everyone should know that this failure is my fault

time to get nerdy...
i'm building a dual plenum intake now and i'm researching guidlines...
this place says to make the long opening approximately 110% of the throttle body opening.
http://www.jasperintegration.com/distri ... lenum.html
a 3B throttle body measures out to 66mm, which is a surface area of 3,421mm's, so 110% of that is 3763. if i make an opening that is 435mm long (basically the edge of the first bell mouth opening to the rear edge of the last,), i need a slit about 8mm wide... i'm thinking about putting some kind of diverters to help direct and distribute the air even better like that guy with the 280z plenum we saw in the chitchat forum (i cannot find the thread for the life of me!)
this is what i have so far..

i busted out a illegal download of Derracuda Works and drew up a rough design of the intake...

the blue is air incoming to the first plenum from the throttle body, then goes up through the top of that plenum through the slot, through air directors, into the main plenum. does it make sense?
lastly, i've been wanting to do this for so long...

i'll cut out the rings and drill some holes in the main plenum to weld it in from behind. *giddy dance*

Honestly, if you're going to go through the trouble of a dual plenum, I'd try to find some poor aerospace nerd in search of a project and have him flow everything first. IIRC, that 280Z guy found some pretty significant problems in his first revision using the CFD that would've ended up doing more harm than good. Using simple aluminum pipes (as opposed to a fancy CNC'd or cast plenum like Lehmann and the 280Z guy) seems like it could complicate things a lot, as the plenum would likely have some sharp edges which would hurt flow quite a bit (turbulence being shed off of the hard edges/small radii of pipes).
Cool idea for sure, and its use from the 80s all the way up to the Skoda rally cars and the R8/R10/R15 would certainly signal some effectiveness, but I think there's a lot of room to mess this up in practice with the means you have to use. This is compared to a single plenum custom intake, which hasn't really ever shown any issues with flow distribution (Javad has reported perfectly consistent EGTs with his setup), and is orders simpler to get right.
But I dunno, I've never messed with one, I might be way off base.

yo derek, i think this is the thread you were looking for.
http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.ph ... 63&page=11
also, if i was doing the 110% size calculation i would want to start with a bored aan or 3b TB rather than stock dia. as you would only ever go bigger turbo, inj, tb etc etc rather than anythign smaller

i think it's been proved that a stock 3B throttle body will sustain 600+ whp, and i'm only shooting for about 400
Sam, i realize i'm not an engineer and i haven't run any of this through simulators, but, i would be willing to pop it down to 034 if they wanna flow it or throw it on an engine to see if it makes any difference to an already known base engine with a known intake manifold.

ahhh, much teeny things to be done.
i marked and cut out the diverters/air straighteners. 19 in all, but i think i'll only need 17 or 18...

smoothed and cleaned all the edges off on the belt sander

then lastly i trimmed the main plenum for the tapered effect. since i drew up that paintshop pic above, i altered the design for ease of construction and i think for better flow characteristics, along with fitting my space constraints even better.

well derek, i would love to send a nice compliment out there on the quality of work youre doing here, but then again, its pretty much just par for the thread
oh and thanks youre setting a standard us mortals may never live up to, beautiful stuff, keep it up you have 12's in no time
my bet, k24 right?

i don't think the K24 will like filling the new intercooler and intake plenum... hence the incoming 3071R.
here's another profile shot of the intake to give an idea of my slot modification...

the first plenum will be to the right there...

i think i can open the first plenum up a little with the extra space in front of the radiator, but i can only go with so much taper from the radiator back, which is ok.

should they be angled a bit in the direction of incoming air?

hopefully your confidence has a strong alliance with physics and this all works swell Dave
honestly, even if it works as good as a stock 3B, i really only wanted to create this manifold to have a forward TB, and something that resembled a handcrafted race piece from back in the day. i know it sounds silly, but that's me, i like to craft and create, so for me this is a pleasure to make. if it turns out to work fabulously, all the better!
