Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E and misfires
hmm. Can you post the logs from those runs and the fuel?
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E and misfires
sure, but its not anything in my tune I promise you
when it was running right
(I picked a rich portion just to show you that its not because its too rich or something since this was a good run)...haven't been able to fine tune yet because of the bad coil

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E and misfires
are you suggesting that I try them?
I really don't think its plugs, but that is my only other guess really. Plug wires are solid, coils probably aren't judging from my experience so far, and plugs are brand new. I may try to gap them down to .024 or something, but I'd think they'd do just fine at .028. The LS2 coils are certainly strong enough under normal conditions.

After trying a couple different plugs, I am now using F6DTC's, with zero problems. They're cheap, and seem to last a long time.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E and misfires
I was reserving my judgment until I tried it cold (car was warmed up obviously).
There was a slight improvement, but still breaking up...just a little less than last night. Then it kinda got worse and then better intermittently. Kinda funny to feel the power fluctuate as it starts sparking again.
All signs point to another coil in my opinion.
*edit* and now I have 5 brand new mother effers on the way.

I really like those, but I have issues with electrical noise on them--Keyspan adapters and such go dead. I need to add more grounds or something.

Auto parts stores used to sell "resistors" to go inline to the plugs.
Adding the resistor will often drop the EMI so that the radio and other stuff functions.
Otherwise you may need to go to less aggressive plug wires.
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E and misfires
While I am waiting on coils (might get here today...maybe tomorrow) I have decided to look into the upper strut mounts I've been talking about a little more. What it comes down to is it would make it a lot easier for me to design them if I could have a blown bilstein to use along with another A1 racing top hat, and a spare OEM upper strut mounting plate which bolts to the strut tower (I plan to use these with the new mounts).
So does anyone have a spare bilstein sport (blown is fine) and that upper mounting plate? I'd pay for them. This will help me with the design while still keeping the daily driver...uh...driving.
I will be using Aurora mil-spec spherical bearings. I'd order them now but need to know the correct ID for the bearing to sit on the strut correctly.
I also need a subframe hole diameter so I can get those subframe mounts figured out. If anyone has any of this info, it would be greatly appreciated. I definitely can't have my car apart long enough to do this myself at the moment.

Maybe these pictures will help you with your design (I know you just want the strut but figured this might help):

Thanks Corey. I still don't exactly see how the spherical bearing makes contact with the top hat

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E, misfires, and suspen
I am also interested in seeing that. I am looking to make some camber plates/taller strut towers for use with C4 struts in my 90q. Are you currently using A1racing hats with the 200 strut mounts? Did you have to bore out the hole in the hat?
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E, misfires, and suspen
Yes, I am using A1 racing hats and did have to bore the hole in the hat a bit. It was quick and easy though. My goal isn't camber adjustment...its increased suspension travel. These will allow for camber adjustment just like the stock setup however. I'm sure they will become more refined as they are tested, etc though.
My main holdup is how to get the top hat to make contact with the spherical bearing for turning. Thats the only thing I haven't hammered out completely yet. I am counting on that being pretty easy when I have everything in-hand.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E, misfires, and suspen
On mine the top hat fits directly under the bearing, there is a washer between the two, so it just spins on the bearing..
Also, the plates shown above won't give us any additional travel, we need the bearing to be basically on top and spaced up a little..Like we discussed way back on this thread..
PM'd you about the materials needed..
Cary

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E, misfires, and suspen
Yeah, thanks Cary this is all taken care of now and I can design to my heart's content as soon as I get everything
Yeah your top hats look quite a bit different than mine. I can see how it would be easier to get the bearing to sit on those with a washer. I think mine will probably need a thicker washer, but we'll see.

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E, misfires, and suspen
Sorry this is all over the place...but we are back to misfire discussion now.
Got all 5 new, known-to-be-good LS2 coils in. Tested them and there was some improvement, but not totally fixed. Still missing some.
I plan to gap a new set of BKR7e's down to .024 or so tonight (.028 now). Not sure if thats better than opening them up or not. The coils should be strong enough to spark them with a big gap and then they'd have less chance of blowing out.
Gapping them down might mask a problem with the plug wires.
Marc isn't convinced that the plug wires aren't the culprit even though they are brand new...so I'll be taking a video tonight to see if they arc when I'm on launch control.
I'll probably go to some nice MSD wires.
If that fails, then I'll try some Bosch spark plugs. I'm not convinced at all that they are some kind of magic for these engines however. The NGKs should do just fine. Something else is at work here.
oh and I'll be posting a video of the misfires as soon as it uploads

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: Lets talk 01E, misfires, and suspen
well I tried looking for sparks, but I didn't get enough boost with the launch control. I don't know if I really want to pull even more timing to try and get more boost (only got 5psi this try). It probably won't arc unless I am 10psi or above though.
I'll try plugs tomorrow. I worked on the 90 for way too long to work on the 200 tonight

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: misfires fixed!
First of all, let me just say EF YOU stupid Audi engines for being so picky!
So when I went to go change out my plugs I found this on cylinder 2...same cylinder that improved for a bit when I switched coils last week.
WTF!!!!!!!???!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Craziest shit I've ever seen lol

I then put a new BKR7e in and it ran even worse. Weird...
Threw some old FR5DTC or whatever and it ripped like I've never felt it before. Like holy poopy its fast! I didn't stay on it for long though because I didn't have my laptop with me to read AFR and I'm sure its running a little lean now that its actually making power.
FINALLY

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: misfires fixed!
I have these EXACT same problems on mine. I was using NGK's (cant remember exactly which ones) and the worked great for about 2 months, then i couldnt pull any more than 15-16psi. It would miss like crazy and just fall on its face. So i put the old, used, worn out boschs back in, that i had taken out, and it ran like a champ! The next day i ordered a set (100$) later and havent had the problem since. Dont know why they are like this, but they obviously are!
Glad its running like a top again! I wanna see some :vids:

Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: misfires fixed!
Yeah i hate how picky audi engines are with plugs too. Glad to hear its running good though !
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: misfires fixed!
it feels pretty good but there is still the occasional pop. I think its crank trigger issue. Not really that worried about it though.
I'll make a vid as soon as possible, but its got so much more in it...its got room for much more timing, much less fuel, and lots more boost. I just don't want to push it with my own tune without a dyno.

F5DPOR's? Figure out what the next heat range colder is, and run those, I'll be it likes them even better....
Re: Loxxrider's 200 20v: misfires fixed!
No, I'm pretty sure they are the part number I listed FR5DTC. Marc says he uses them in pretty much everything and loves them.
Drove it around a lot tonight and beat on it a lot. Was flawless especially with the temp around 70 degrees outside
The car is pulling like a monster for the VERY conservative timing map, pretty rich fuel map, and only 15psi. I bet I could pick up an extra 50hp with some fine timing and fuel tuning. This turbo is awesome!
Can't wait to get it on a dyno.
Right now I think I could add 4 or 5 degrees of timing on pump and take it from .8 to .9 lambda. Should definitely make a good bit more power.
