Your familiar with the Westchester area soooo if ya make it in time let me know. I'm currently running my avant on a base tune (VEMS) Can't wait to tune this thing, 60lbr's came in yesterday along with the fact that I'm headed to a friends place Fri to do a preventitive head gasket/rs2 mani install. I got my apikol intake installed with powdercoated valve cover with the help of some Canadian friends and she's looking quite pimptastic if I do say so myself. I hope you make it in time Casey!

Man Casey, you've been going crazy on this project lately. Glad to see it. The radiator/intake/downpipe/ and everything else looks great. I am using the ebay manifold and going to finish my bracing up today. I hope we don't have the same problems that Hank had. Anyway, good work and I hope you get it finished for Carlisle!

Thanks for the encouraging words, this has been a loooong time coming! It looks like it's so close to being done, but I still have a lot to get done in only 2 weeks - mostly aluminum welding/fab for the intake plumbing, and radiator which I can't do myself and so I'll be at the mercy of other people's schedules. I'm also not looking forward to finding radiator hoses that fit with the new location... any tips for this? I was just going to wander the junkyard and bring home hoses to test fit.

Tried to do my fuel pump last night only to find that I have nearly a full tank of gas, so that's going to have to wait.... and that's a lot of old gas....

For my radiator hoses I measure the outlet/inlet of the radiator and endpoint then measured the length of the hose needed. Goodyear makes a flexible radiator hose with different inlet/outlet sizes.

I'm using a corrugated SS "hose" for my top line. The rubber that I looked at would not bend as tightly.

When doing custom stuff like this, I find the easiest is to walk into an autozone and just politely ask if you can browse the hose selection behind the counter. Bring a measurement of what you need and just piece together a couple of hoses off the shelf from random apps and piece together 2 hoses to make it work. Little couplers with hose clamps get it done.

Hmm... I'll have to give it some thought - I almost feel bad going without my car :(

Need your help people! How should route my intake plumbing? I don't have much room, so I'm thinking that I'll just use a silicone 90, but I'm open to suggestions! I even thought about flipping the endtank so that the outlet of the IC is on the bottom to give me more room to work the pipe.

You can get short radius AL 90s. I like to do as much as possible in hard pipe. I'd weld a 90 on the end of the intercooler clocked up. Then you could probably get away with just having a silicon 45*.

I'd cut the end tank. three 90* bends all in just over a foot is kinda nasty. I forget what it is exactly, but i think 180* represents 1psi pressure drop? someone correct me if i'm wrong. Either way, it would be much more tidy if you just reconfigured the endtank to point up to the TB 8)

Derek, that would depend on the pipe diameter, roughness, original pressure, etc. I don't think it will matter too much in the grand scheme of things. It would be interesting to test it though and compare with theoretical losses.

I have some AL 90s for my car like John was talking about. They are really nice (polished!) and thick and I got them from Ebay.

My setup is almost identical to what you have there as well Casey. I have the tank flipped(literally cut and flipped) with a cast 90 to make the initial 90. They it lines up pretty well with a 45 or so there at the end.

OK, to put it in more technical terms, head loss from a 90 degree bend is equal to:

HL=(Kl*V^2)/(2*g)

Where Kl is the loss coefficient and V is the average velocity of the flow.

For 1000 CFM, average velocity in the pipe is about 103.5 m/s so the head loss would then be ~163.9 meters. To get pressure drop from head loss, we have:

delta P = rho*g*Hl

where rho is the density of the fluid.

This gives us a pressure drop of 1606.5 Pa which is equal to 0.233 psi. So at least in theory, each elbow might account for about a quarter psi in pressure drop.
