Sunday, productive Sunday...

I took a trip to Home Depot to get the proper size hole saw (1 1/8 - 29mm) for the CA bushings. Aaron, this method of removing the control arm bushings is the shizz. If it weren't for my battery going lame on me a few times on my cordless drill I would have had all 8 of them out in less than a half hour. Far less messy than burning them too - sorry Hank. 8)

I got all the strut assemblies broke down with a little help from John. They were a bit stubborn but we prevailed. Sent John home with some tokens of my appreciation which will be used on Herr's UrQuattro project.

I think my starting point with the springs is going to be 375 F / 400 R and if that is remotely close to how the Coupe S-Line handles I will be impressed. I'm happy with the Red Pill not-having a sway bar on the front with similar rates.[/quote]

No clue how they compare really but I think the s-line has 300-350lb progressive fronts with 400lb linear rears. I spent a while swapping springs and roll bars till I found a setup that felt like an Audi to me (well felt like my B5 S4 at least). I'd think you could use lower rates on the urq since it's so much lighter. Regardless, I'm curious to hear what your impressions are after the change.

What's a bird to do...

...when there are no more perches :dur:

I really wasn't planning on getting too dirty tonight, but one thing leads to another and there ya go.
I have a little bit of detail grinding to do, but an hour and a half's worth of work gave me enough sense of accomplishment to head in and get cleaned up. With a 4 day weekend ahead I think I might be able to actually do a little more cleaning and refinishing than I had planned on these.

Im on track for Sunday to have the fronts reinstalled and the rears ready and awaiting the subframe changeout.

Check the fit of your sleeves!! You may have more grinding ahead than you think. I don't think that the A1 racing sleeve's 55mm ID is the same 55mm OD of the audi tubes. Close, but not exact. I found that I was into shiney bare metal for quite some time before I could slide the sleeves into place. I guess here in America we are still learning how to use/manufacture in metric.

Those sanding discs are a godsend! I love them! They kick the crap out of a grinding wheel any day of the week.

ok, Delrin control arm bushings - installing...

Best method? pull them thru with washers / threaded rod? or press them in?

Helpful hints? freeze them?

you did get the sleeve part out of the control arm too, right? when you get the rubber out, there is a metal sleeve left.

but i just put em in the vice.

Well that wasn't as bad as I expected. I froze all the bushings while I was de-burring / reaming the control arms, then about the time Aaron was suggesting using the vice - I was out in the garage using the vice.

Done:
Front subframe R&R with new solid mounts
    Struts removed and broken down
Rear subframe (spare) stripped, seam welded, and painted ready to go
    Control arm bushes removed
Press in all eight Delrin CA bushings
Remove / grind stock spring perches
Replace one ball joint (cracked boot)*
    Prepare uprights for coil-over transition
Start the process of dropping rear subframe / diff
Weld up the support rings for the threaded sleeves

Next up:
    Assemble the coil-overs
    R&R diff mount (delrin)
As much cleaning / de-gunking of remaining bits and pieces as I can stand.

I received the new rear pads and disks...

* I had ordered a cheap replacement ball joint from a Fiat 124 to see if the boot itself would fit on the Lancia, to my dismay, it did not. However it fit the UrQuattro ball joint perfectly! So, for $10 I threw out the Fiat ball joint and transferred the new boot over to the UrQ and I was able to not-use one of my spare early UrQ ball joints for the sake of a torn boot! Very happy about this one...

Im on the home stretch, I got even a few more things checked off my above list this evening - thanks to your Dad. We got my support rings welded to my rear strut housings.

I know how hard everyone is working to get their cars done. Sean in Henderson will likely start his car tomorrow for the first time in 3 or more years. Except for the diff mount mine is in the back-together stage. Herr's UrQ is on track as well. Keep the momentum Hank and don't accept defeat
