VEMS urs PNP into a different chassis - wiring

Post by chaloux »

Those of you who have done this (not sure how many) using a urs wiring harness - how much of the harness in the footwell did you remove? I haven't figured it all out yet for my 4k, haven't really thought about it actually... but anyway I'll need switched power, I'll have to integrate the fuel system... and what else? Is there a separate power for the coils? I need to look at Dave/urs4boy's wiring harness diagrams on Quattroworld to get a better sense of how things are run.

Mike, the PO of my car had IIc wired using the relay board to give fuel pump, coils and injectors power. I took all that out, so how much of it is integrated with the harness? Essentially I've got an AAN, stock harness, and PNP VEMS - shouldn't be too bad, right? :)

Oh, and I'm using the 60-2 crank pulley trigger - can I just plug into it using the stock harness? Any other settings in VEMS?

I have yet to do this to mine but I am in the same boat. You need switched, constant, grounds, tach, and fuel pump relay as far as I know. I believe your switched goes through your fuel pump relay though, and also to your coils but its been awhile since I looked at the diagrams.

What I was wondering is what others have done with all of the excess wiring from the urs. Just shove it up and zip tie it?

Thanks! Even just that small list helps. I'll get a link for Dave's diagram now. See below.

What I did with my TDI swap is cut (different lengths if multiple wires) and either heat shrink or tape. I barely needed any of the AAN harness so I went all in and cut a CRAPload out. Much better after that :)

2) or this bad boy - this is pretty much all the info ya need I guess

Those diagrams are great, I've never seen them before. I would like to eventually make my own harness but I have so much to do and I'm running out of time with spring right around the corner.

I would have given my left nut for that diagram about a year ago, :foff: though when I did mine, I deleted the Motronic plug and went to econoseals. :P

Yeah the reason why I decided to sell my old ECO harness with IIc and get an AAN one is because the old man has VEMS and I really like the idea of being able to swap out ECUs. Even for a stock one if I want.

Anyway, I'll try to keep this thread in mind when I go about wiring the 4k up and take some photos/write down some info.

Just a small update. I would absolutely recommend picking up an UrS harness and pnp VEMS unit. Wiring was simple and most of the power is found in one plug. Basically, the one plug is cut out, power given to all wires in it (they are all fused from the factory), one power wire to ecu, ground, and then just keyed power to fuel pump. The tach signal is pnp. This was a huge time saver. And you also use whatever urs pnp coil kit you want. Sweetness.

But there is a lot of extra loom that needs to be tucked somewhere (in my case behind the globe box).
