Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 2-5 Precision AWIC work
also, i went to Harbor Freight Race shop and got a little multifunction tool, to assist in some sound deadening removal. and it worked AWESOME!!!! i had to sharpen the blade a few times, but it was great. just under the rear seat area was 3lb 3oz, and after i got everything i could all over the rest of the interior, i still removed just over 10 pounds!!!
it is all starting to add up. i forgot to mention, while fitting the new AWIC i also removed >8 pounds more of steel making room for it.

Been meaning to share with you... Before you go spend good money on a cool suit use one of these for the pump.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Donjoy-Iceman-1 ... 337fabe5ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... 337fabe5ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Should use the same quick release connectors as cool suit stuffs.
Also is the yellow top spoken for? My redtop just got assigned to the s4 and I'm suddenly lacking in that dept.

Thanks John!!!quattro87 wrote:Looks great Aaron!! I take it your back is feeling a bit better or are you just ignoring it?
and to answer, its a bit of both. i am feeling better, but from lack of using it much the past few months, i "tire" easily, and the normal stuff makes me want to rest more often.
i get less done that i would like, but it is for the better.
today i am finishing off making all of the little pieces to put back onto the AWIC/res, took apart the dryer to figure out why it isnt working, spent $1760 on freaking T-SHIRTS!!!!! i did order a few extra just in case any of my friends wanted one. they can contact me directly not thru MG, i want no part of the last times repercussions again
and, when i had those made, i TOTALLY did not even think to talk to Sean. I had totally spaced his venture, and only just remembered that the other day seeing pix in your thread of the new mill, John, and seeing Hank in his new T-shirt. i know that had to be done by Sean, and that is what reminded me of Iconify. and i feel bad for not supporting a fellow MG'r. ADHD does overload sometimes, and little tidbits of info that were meant to be stored sometimes get lost. maybe i need a defrag of my brain, i dunno.

Aaron,
Did you weigh the hatch glass?
I have been thinking about doing that since the first time a CQ hatch hit me on the head!

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 2-5 Precision AWIC work
so i finally figured out what i was going to do on the door glass replacing it with polycarbonate. and it should work out great. put some aluminum stiffener plates in there and also to mount it with. pre-loaded them with more curve, so it (hopefully) stays sealed. and saved >6 pounds per door this way. eventhough the OEM glass weighed in at 11lb 13oz, the aluminum plates took a little but they are needed.
yes, i ground down for the final shape against the glass, no big deal gotta make it perfecto.
and, my son is immortalized in the car
did a quick little video to show how this works.... lets hope they stay sealed at 150-160 mph

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 2-5 Precision AWIC work
but originally i made the trailing edge plate to mount where the frame is for the window tracks. after looking at the front, and noticing the front seal mounts to the frame, i cancelled that idea. i will do some drilling and cutting on the steel frame to make it lighter.

Any plans on getting up to Pacific Raceways this season? I would love to come out and see the car and watch a run or few.... I love the fact that you're constantly improving on what is already "the best." Amazing work.

thanks!
and i dunno, it is really hard for me to drive by my track 20 minutes away (Woodburn), and then drive by my next favorite track only an hour away (PIR where i have run my bests at) to go 4 hours to the North to run. it just isnt feasible from a time, money, effort, scheduling standpoints.
it is just a hobby car, not anything serious in the way of points series or anything. i run when i can, where i can.
but honestly, i dont see me driving 4 hours one way to race unless there was no chance locally for a month in either direction if the car is ready to go.
now if you can convince Dave Meister to do Waterwerks there, i will definitely make that effort.
