and i really didnt do progress pics of the firewall. its all 1" tube 1/16" thick, and 24ga steel per NHRA rules. and i can go to minimum .032 if i want aluminum. i had this, so i used it. its all removable, so its not hard to change especially now that i have the patterns/shapes. 1lb/sq ft for steel, .45lb sq/ft for aluminum, or so i read.

i have been busy on other things. i built myself a new office furniture setup. i added 4 feet of roof on the back deck and scrubbed some moss off and cleaned that gutter out. i built an awning on the front of the shed that tried to kill me. i have been taking it easy due to my back issues..... and we have been making cardboard fortresses as well.

Image

Image

A6 dont make the best haulers, but they get the job done in a couple trips!!!! i have been wanting a new desk since before we did the kitchen. and well, i did it. spent car funds to do it too. oh well.

Image

Image

Image

this isnt the best, but its cool. i did one from my phone that was better but i havent gotten it off the phone yet. i had some 18x24 canvases made for pretty cheap ($16.29 each SHIPPED! i got 19 LOL) and thats what the boxes of the fortress are. i painted all the uprights black, the shelves clear, and the desk is >7 feet each way 90 degrees.

http://360.io/TsymGp

but i think i am about 90% done on the pass side. needs seam sealer and fenderwell done.

its gonna get a removable cover over the shift box thing....

and, things dont always sit idle here.

the cheapo oscillating tool from harbor freight does a great job of removing sound deadening quickly. $20 i think it cost. Grab a long blade and keep an angle grinder handy to freshen up the edge every now and again.

been doin stuff. just not really posting updates.

dont know where i left off so, i will just relate what is soonest in the ADHD locker of my skull.

got a Compbrake floor mount pedal set and its the biggest piece of shit i have ever bought, and i know nothing about them. but i do now, after weeks of reading. and i am about to go out to the garage and cut more of it apart and weld it back together until it is perfect for me. piece of shit anyhow. i have been working with it for a week and it is still not great but its getting there. balance bars arent fun. i hate them. i am almost to the point of welding it solid and using the prop valve on the rear circuit.

got a neat little tool. Rivnut tool, for installing Rivnut/Nutserts. already used it on the firewall plates :)

tonight i have to get dimensions for my shift lever tower, i need to get moving on that.

my Peach Mango candle has been depleted, now i am rollin with Hawai'ian Coconut until my Candy Cane scent one arrives LOL.

and surgery is scheduled for right before the end of the year, i have less than 3 weeks to decide if i will do it or not. and it is not by any means an easy decision for me. the thought of a person cutting into my spine just worries me. but i lived thru 3 different epidural injections, so.....

what else, what else.... Tilton pedal reservoir (Tim/Haydn copy ;) ) and some more stuff, just really cant think what off hand.

cheerio.

If the Compbrake is crap, why didn't you just return it?

Sorry to hear you have to decide about operation or not. Recovery time from that must be very long.

Compbrake is in the UK.

it is one problem after another. first they forgot the clevis for the clutch and the nonskid for the pedals. next the brake pedal was offset wrong and side loading the MC pushrods. now, i have noticed that the MC's are too low mounted, and the rods have more non-straight angle to them. if i want to cut it apart and move the plate for the MC's up about 1/4" then i think it will be good.

its just spend almost $400 on a nice pile of shit that is all powder coated and shit to end up having to cut it up in two different fashions makes not a lot of sense to me. and the cost to ship it back? well, that is why i didnt want to deal with that.

and they "say" recovery time would be around 4 weeks if i am diligent. will i be diligent though? who is to say.

I see. I hope you gave them some Aaron style "feedback" on their product.

Dude, 4 weeks is when you will be able to walk. Remember I said that it takes 2 YEARS to recover from herniated discs? And that is if you really don't strain your back.
You are f***ed, man. You will have to change your lifestyle. I hope your boy grows up fast, because you will need help with working on the cars.

more work on the car. the firewall is completed. the fender wells are completed, i still have some undercoating to remove.

a quick look at how it was at the start of the winters changes to now. and i depleted the Peach mango, went thru a Hawai'ian Coconut, and just tonight got Candy Cane flavored Ambiance Provider. ;)

Image

Image

but the pedals, well they suck ass. i dislike them pretty much. what shoddy workmanship. long story short i had to cut it up and re-weld it so the pedal is centered between the MC's and the pushrods operate straight, and still if i want it to be actually RIGHT i need to cut off the MC plate and move it up so the pushrods dont scrape the side of the MC body when engaged. just shitty you spend $400 and have to cut it all apart to make it right.

so i think i didnt really think it thru when i removed the firewall, because it was a bit of work to put it back in!

and i spent time in the wheel wells with a wire wheel on a grinder, that stuff comes of decently that way, but sure makes a mess.... the inner fender wells are back in and completed.

Image

Image

Image

and the firewall stuff. this was fun, sort of. the driver side took 7 different pieces of sheet metal. lots of shapes and angles and curves, etc. and welding .024 thin really is trying. any kind of gap at all and it just melts away.

did some floor work. mounted pedals. need fittings now. still gotta put a heel rest in, and maybe a dead pedal plate. also have to decide if i want to finish the floor to the front of the seat area, its not detrimental now.

Image

Image

Image

made bracket mount for throttle pedal, learned when you move the firewall inward your throttle cable needs to stretch haha.

Image

and expanded the collection of nutserts. i like cool lil trinkets like this.

Image

got the new fuel cell pump mount plate.

Image

new candle(s) in ze garage.

Image

working on wiring cleanup and remounting ECU and such. first i cleared some work space, and found some things i have been misplacing along the way haha

did some wiring work today. i have T-10 days to finish this car, or wait until March to do work on it.

made a framework for the relay plate.

Image

man this is still cramped for a workspace! i really need to finish this project up LOL

Image

spent a lot of time going thru old pictures, to try and remember what goes where haha. i did make a "map" but i lost it. its been 4 years since i first built it. i built this harness from scratch, so there isnt any rhyme or reason to it at all haha. just a guy with ADHD and Shiny-itis.

Image

old plate versus new plate

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

and an idea of how it looks in the car. i am only about 40% done at this point. gotta love it!

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 12-22 more wiring update

Post by speeding-g60 »

its getting there. almost done i think ;)

Image

and it is mucho cleaned up underneath too. i even made it so the relay/fusebox plate is serviceable. it was all not really accessible before. now, all is easy to get at!

Image

and i needed a way to run wiring out in the bay, under the "dash", and keep it semi hidden and clean. so i took a piece of SS tubing, bent it into the shape of a towel rack, and welded it to the framing. high enough that it is hard to see at a glance, and it is great to run the wiring along it.

Image

Image

and the view from the front, thru the windshield. we gonna see it now all the time, not like before when it was all hidden from the dash.

Image

Image

and one thing i really need to do is spend some time and go thru all my lately posts and reroute the pic links. i wont have Facebook forever, and that is what i am linking all of the pictures from, my Speeding-g60 Race Team HQ page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Speeding ... 8141676752

two more days only to work on the car, then a long hiatus.
