Nice page. I like how you put your pit crew cheif right on the front. You shoud get some shirts made up with your drag cq on them, i'd take one of em.

Aron,
wanted to ask you
does the clutchmasters valve helped you at all ?
I'm leaning towards this and the tilton carbon clutch

That shirt is great, but can you get it without the "my daddy's car" ?. It might look a little weird on me. Oh, and i need XL.

Dom; i took the valve out after one outing..... it works, but it works on EVERY SHIFT!
not just launch which is what i wanted. sold and gone already. i didnt like the slippage on each shift. noticeable.
Dan, thanks, but others have said the same thing....

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 12-23 John Iroz personal update
and a guy over on VWKotex did a Solidworks model of my manifold and flowed it. not too bad for amateurs? or does it totally suck? it seems to work

Aaron wrote:yeah, it sure isnt really easy to measure up custom stuff....
this is what the ports look like internally,FWIW. the OEM AEB runners/backplate came from Issam.... we chopped the rest and built to suit. it was a little different, but i changed my mind on the AWIC mount point so we changed the throttle body angle a little to more meet the AWIC outlet in a straight shot.
kkkustom wrote:Here is Aarons intake. spot on I would say!! Will get to flowing it later
TB points right at #2 like you said!
kkkustom wrote:It flows great!!!! I will get the numbers later, I have to run and get some stuff done around the house.

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 1-08 manifold flow test results
nope, well kinda nope.
the stroker motor, we made a baseline hit. 7k rpm, 23 psi >500 wheel. reeeeaaaalllllyyy rich. took some fuel out, and heard spun bearing noise.
havent put it back together yet since.
we will run it to maybe MAYBE 9k max. ~40 psi or so..... we will see.

Hey Aaron, the CFD is a good starting point, the real skill with CFD or any kind of analasys like this is the skill in reading it. I am by no means an expert, I can do this stuff but would classify myself as severe amateur.
A few thoughts and questions:
How did he set the model up flow wise, did he apply a basic input pressure and flow at the TB?
Can you get flow numbers CFM from him as well as pressure? That is a lot harder to get form the CFD.
Did he include any surface finish calcs in the model, that will affect the flow.
A few comments:
The most important thing is to get balanced flow in each runner, can you get a n umber from him for each runner? Looks to me like runner 4 has less flow than the rest which is understandable.

there is a huge low pressure zone on the left and at the bottom that shows you could get rid of that volume, however there is also a corresponding hig pressure area high at runner 1/2. I would say you need to restrict the flow to 1/2 to push more flow to 4/3 much like any traditional tapered manifold.
Just my 2c, hope it helps

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 1-08 manifold flow test results
thanks H. i will have to ask him that stuff. i will, and of course report findings. it was just an idea, as he is getting practice for this stuff by modelling our manifolds we make.
i did notice #4 has a little less flow....
my next project manifold is going to be different yet. i have an idea of slot-loading a twin plenum setup, with velocity stacks and all. IDKWTF i am doing really, just have stuff in my mind i want to try.... this one seems to work alright though for me.

Re: Aarons Drag CQ: 1-08 manifold flow test results
I would say in this one, or any similar, get rid of the top and bottom step at the junction to the runners, taper the whole plenup to cause velocity gain as you approach the runners, and taper the whole plenum a bit to favor 4 & 3 a little more.

For your level of application I would recommend running an EGT probe in each runner, I dont know if you do or not, but you should, this will give you really good feedback of what each cylinder is doing. My guess would be with this manifold that you will see a slope from 1-4, if that is the case you could fuel trim the cylinders accordingly.
Adding velocity stacks in this manifold may help too, have your buddy model stacks in there and play with lengths to offset the flow per cylinder.

car weighs i think 2550 without driver. i think. but i made a few changes, so when its up again i will check it.
flow test? guy did it just for practice using Solidworks..... he is learning the software and offered to do it.

Hi aaron, manifold looks great.
I'm currentle fabbing up a plenum manifold for my 20v. I stole the idee from this hks manifold. (But I'm still not sure about having TB's r not)

Its beautiful out there isn't it? I went a few years back (during the summer) and was very pleasantly surprised with how mild the climate is compared to Florida. Its perfect all the time.
Looking forward to more updates on this beast
