Aaron, I know it's too late, but is there a reason you installed those Aero Catch hood pins in that orientation, versus reversed like this:

Image

I think it's in the instructions the way you did it, but I was talking to one of the APR engineers last year (they ran their Koni Challenge cars at a couple of our events), and he said there is a slight aero advantage to running them backwards like on that R8 GT3. Probably won't matter at all on a drag car, but I thought I would mention it for anyone else that might be looking at using them.

By the way, the car's looking great! :-)

those Aero Catch latches are nice, definitely "on my list" for the CQ. I love what you did with the roll tubing as well, makes me eye my sawzall while looking at the empty engine bay in my coupe...

haha... kinda what happened here, too. after i tried to set that big turbo in the bay to see how difficult manifold was gonna be and there was just no room.

and i can only imagine the kind of work i could get done if i had an actual shop (like your new one :D ). this is garage work at the house. this car started its modding life on the trailer in the driveway.

and i did my steering mods.

i put in the Fox manual rack. little bit of modifying, but its in. and then i made some changes to the steering arms. rather, i made my own. (as if right?) i think i ended up using an early VW Bug transition from Fox rack to Coupe steering column. i am going to weld it solid for piece of mind though.... i dug around at the VW parts yard for a couple hours trying to find something that was splined right. in my searching, i opened up a room that has a few 5cyl 20vt motors.... did not know they had that kinda stuff there.... cool to see though.

i now have Heims ended steering rods. and i made the front strut housings to be able to accept heims ends and capture them between two tabs instead of the typical ball joint. someone told me that what i was up to was not going to work, but they spoke out of turn as the setup was not completed at that time.

i raised the rack end of the arms up to be level with the mounts on the strut towers. remember, this car only sees one purpose, and one only.

i had to do this to give me just that little bit of room for the trans swap/motor swap/custom mounting i have done.

and i spent a good portion of today scraping floor sound deadener off. that sucks big time.

yeah, and i have been home for ONE WEEK!!!!!

you been home since we started LOL. and also remember, the whole time i have been away, my ADHD self has been thinking, plotting, planning, and buying stuff. had to move two vw's out to move this one in and all of its parts :D

i whacked out the two pc rear strut coilover mods last week sometime.

oh yeah, i am doing two cars at the same time as well, not counting the Lago Coupe mods. got the second Peloquin LSD for the rabbit today, will drop it off tomorrow for the new trans to be finished. new gearing, 4.24 R&P, no syncros and grinding the teeth on the gears themselves. poor mans dog-box if you want to call it that. its a Lugnuts stage 3 mod.... :D

i am WAITING on a manifold (hint hint SOMEONE!!!) so i can get it mounted, modded, and the AWIC mounted. tomorrow i think i will work on the cage some more, and remove the brake MC and put it closer to the firewall. give myself more room up there.

oh yeah, my rimz will be here this week, too.

and i got the parts to adapt my OEM brake lines to the Wilwood proportioning valve for the rear brakes today also. had a place just cut a new stock hardline in two, and flare the ends to work with my prop valve.

thanks for the thoughts.

its welded up both sides, fully across the bottom, and on the top as well where it meets the tab for the dampner shock. also, the original holes are plug welded full as well.

its 1/4" angle, and the bolts for it are standard grade 8 which = metric grade 10.9. they wont break either. it'll hold. you just dont see it all when its installed there. i will shoot pix of it when i take it off to paint it :D

i may be no engineer, but i be a thinker haha

true dat, RJ. BUT: i was sent to Idaho for 3 months in June '08. came home last week. i am off by choice. right now i am working off of last years vacation that i got hosed out of taking. told work not coming in until march and they are fine with it. two hours into my "vacation" i am informed that i have to be at a jobwalk on monday next week :x :frustrated:

i said to my project manager that for each day you do this to me, i am going to take an extra two. until you stop or i run out of time off. he understands, i think. they already FORKED me for the WHOLE RACE SEASON LAST YEAR. and i do not think i will let it happen again....
