How are you making your own lenses? Pouring glass?

I noticed that as well Ed. What do you think, just run the glass?

I planned to make a mold of the headlight and vacuum-form acrylic over the mold: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthr ... ing+lenses" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;[/quote]

Yeah - I'd just run the glass. It's not ideal but the hotspots are going to be just as bad with a flat lens... the lens needs texture to diffuse the light. I would at least try it with the glass and see how it looks.

If you could mold some strategically-placed ridges into the plastic lenses that would be best. Clear glass at and above the cutoff, and vertical ridges below to diffuse the light:

That would be damn near impossible, lol. I'll try running them with the glass. Sucks because the pretty projectors are hidden. Oh well, light output is certainly most important.

I may still try and make the lenses for the hell of it. Glass for now though.

Haha! Nice!

I did. My shift knob and steering wheel cover to make my horn work is in route. We talked about the glass, he had the work done elsewhere but said that just just sanded it down then polished it. YIKES.

AMD's 91 200q Project

I think it's time for a new battery in the 200. Any recommendations? Optima worth the money?

I usually run Optimas, but I've had two die on me after being deep-cycled which isn't supposed to make them die. I dunno... they are definitely lighter than some of the huge batteries they recommend.

I had a yellow top in my 90, went strong for 3 years but died the first time it was deep cycled. Not worth the money IMO. Performed the same as a regular battery. My powerstroke has had the shitbox walmart batteries in it for 5 years and they finally gave up the ghost this year when it got down to -20. :shurg:

same exact thing here. I used to run optimas but they failed on me when deep cycled. I run "n"everstart's on most of my cars and they work fine. Be smart and put the receipt in a ziplock baggie taped to the side of the battery though just in case, I have had one or two croak while under warranty.

Other interesting battery tidbits: their 'powersport' line of batteries does not carry the same warranty as their regular batteries. I bought one for my generator (basically the worst case scenario for a battery: seldom used and out in the cold, never topped up). it died after a year or so, not holding any charge whatsoever. I looked inside and there was no fluid, just these nasty stalactite looking icicles hanging out on the lead plates. Doing some reading, its possible to convert that stuff back into sulfuric acid by adding a heated solution of epsom salts. I tried it, and it actually worked (who knew, reading something on the internet that was actually true, wooo!)

Thank you all for the battery info. I'll probably skip the optima and save the money for more important things. I tend to have very good luck with Audi batteries as well. I'll see what the stealership wants (if they can even come up with a part number).

Also, bi-xenons are done for now until I figure out if I want to modify or build custom lenses.

I love your license plate, hadn't noticed that before! Headlights look great, as the rest of the car always does! On the battery front, that's about the only thing I will buy at a Walmart (I HATE walmart). They do no receipt, no questions asked free replacement and don't test them or anything when you bring em back, plus there's Walmart's everywhere. For some reason my batteries always seem to go bad right before they go off warranty

Two yellow tops have completely died on me after one deep cycle each in FL summer temps and pretty much brand new.

I have a 6 year old red top in the 4kq right now and it's just now starting to crap out on me. I also left this battery flat dead for 3 months before I brought it back to life for Oceanic. I found that optimas DO NOT respond well to fast charges at all. I left it on a 2amp charge over the weekend and now it's doing great again.

Any T44 guys happen to know if clear directional lenses exist? I feel like maybe I read somewhere that MK2 VW Golf/Jetta ones will work (could be wrong). I'd like to get some OEMish looking directional lenses to replace my blacked out amber ones and of course use the correct color amber bulb.

Saab 9-3's have an OEM smoked one that looks pretty great, and mounts in a pretty similar fashion.

Yes! I made some. Check back through my thread, probably in the first 5 pages. They were clear MK2 I think golf signals that screw right in place. I smoked them with some spray and had to use some rtv to seal it up since dimensionally they're smaller in width and height though just slightly
