no good news for you(ball joint popped out while driving into town earlier today), but i have a question for you. how much room do you have in front of the timing cover and the core support for the intercooler?

trying to figure out what im doing placement wise of my intercooler but i have no idea how much space im going to have with the 20vt swap. also do you think you gained most of the room from the 01e swap?

as is now im thinking that im going to be putting the intercooler in the aux rad location but if i could fit in behind the grill i would love it there.

Not much, about 1/4" Hope to get rid of the ISV and the elbow in the manifold.
That will be when I switch to VEMS, you can control idle with timing that way.

Otherwise piece of paper has a tough time getting through. ;)

i guess i ment, how thick is your intercooler and did you gain extra space from the 01e(thought i read the 01e is a bit shorter up front).

It's a 2.5" core generic ebay 28x2.5x9 IC. I got at least 10 if not 15mm of backward travel right now with 01E and RS2 tranny mounts (no tranny spacer), hard to measure exactly because the stock location is hard to judge.
I think another 10mm is possible with Hanks tranny mounts and some tweeking to the stock motor mounts.
For now I'll leave it as it is and go from there.

HTH.

Sorry to disrupt the topic but, here is the car information you were looking for Martin. Took picts of the vin and documents for the 84' Quattro.

If you need anything else, feel free to mail me.

Great job btw. Very jealous that you are almost completed.

Thanks for the info, your car makes it #53 out of 99 in my registry.. woohoo.
Looks like most of the Canadian '84s are in the vin 700... Mikes, Craigs and mine are also in there... pretty close

Onto the the project though, thank to Hank I have a driveshaft spacer and back on the ground.
Also got the proper silicone hose and finished off the intake plumbing.
Got it started and let it warm up, couple of small issues, t-belt rubbing on the cover, and refusal to idle properly.
I don't have the alternator belt booked up yet so low battery voltage might have soething to do with that.. or intake leak of some sorts.

Got the car appraised as well, so back on went the hood, and I had to take it around the block. Clutch is stiff but works well, never had performance clutch so didn't know what to expect... the carrier bearing is squeeling like a stuck pig.. but she made it around the block, so as Stewie would say "VICTORY IS MINE".

Kids were happy to see it move as well.

Happy happy joy joy!

Now that it can move under it's own power all I need to do is sort out few bugs and finish off the "small" stuff.

Thank you all for support!

Cheers

If it ever stops raining, I'll have some made... it's supposed to stop sometime mid June :frustrated:

I have never seen it rain so much, it's been two weeks and it just won't stop... the appraiser got his pics just in the nick of time, I didn't even bother washing it... :x

How do you appraise something like this car. They are rare and in this case not stock, which would seem to be a hard go for an appraiser unless he was familiar with this car. I would be waaaay interested in a ballpark figure if you are willing. I need to think about specialty insurance, but I don't really know where to start other than what I have into Her Urq.

I have all of my "valubale" cars appraised. The '85 Euro car was appraised at $30k if that helps.
They try to find similar cars that are currently for sale, but it's hard, especially if the cars are modified.
I also try to "hint" at what I would like to have it appraised as.
You mgiht have to pay a higher premium, but at least you know there is not going to be any issues if the car is a total loss (knock on wood).

I'll let you know via PM what they came up with.

So you have all forward and reverse gears martin? That is exciting. The spacer fit pretty well? I didn't have time to throw that one in the CNC, so it was done with the good ol fashion punch and drill press for the 6 holes. I hope it wasn't too much of a pain to get in there.
