How are you controlling the qsv? N75? The actuator starts opening at about 5psi and finishes before 10. Which is clearly not ideal. We kept it closed until about 20 with the N75, and then full open by about 25-26. I think... have to read our thread again lol

Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
I am looking to go all mechanical. Either with a simple pressure switch and solenoid or adjustable pop off valve that opens around 20 psi. I could go N75, but I would have to re-work my GPO's.
Did you find you need to gradually blend it in?
Anyone think those wheels should be white?

IMO I don't think white wheels go with this car, but I'm surprised you haven't smoked your taillights, even just a little. I'm sure California is pretty strict with that anyways.
I'd tell you your car is absolutely perfect Jim, but I can't, it doesn't have A/C.

Dad had a little mechanical needle valve but the problem with it was that it was inconsistent and it was a guessing game. A pressure switch and solenoid would be okay but the problem then is he suddenness of the sswitch. The n75 is he ideal solution and IMO the only way to really set it up and get the most of it. It is a big hit all at once doubling the a/r, especially to 1.0. We unfortunately only got to run with he n75 for a few days before tearing down the motor and it was a huge improvement, I wish we did it right from the start.

I spent most of today cleaning wiring up and making an new breather vent for the catch can. Here you can see the boost control solenoids under the strut bar, one for the quick spool valve and one for the waste gate. Both are controlled by GPO's. Sorry for the crappy pic.

With the new plug wires and plugs gaped to 0.27" I have eliminated an ign miss above 29 psi. It readily boosts to 2.4 bar or about 35 psi without any complaints. Now I just have to stabilize the boost curve.
It feels fast as hell up top. I have to be really careful, 90mph comes almost instantly in third
I might have to hit the dyno before BBQ because it's a bit crazy tuning on the street.

Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
sweet, glad you went with n75/other control for the qsv. when do you have it opening? I'd love to see this car in person. maybe if hank brings me down to do his sales :-P

Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
Going off the top of my head because I can't view maps offline.. I have settled on a map that opens the QSV above ~20 psi or 4700 rpms whatever comes first. This has a very seamless transition, I found when shut it will not build more than 22 psi or so and you can feel the car choking. Then when it opens all hell brakes loose, lol. I am having real issues nailing down my boost control. I need to get on a dyno, there is too much variance between 3rd and 4th under load. There is not a road around here i can let it rip in 4th, or even a track unless it's oval! I can either do GMG @ 195/hr or go to Hermosa Beach at a new shop that will do $125/hr. Hmm, I always like the hungry new shops even if it's an hr away.
Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
That sounds wick Jimmy. You may get me off my tial hotsides afterall. I can't wait to see the dyno plots!

Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
Here is an interesting plot where it was not opening soon enough and you can see it choking at 26 psi. It took me a while to figure out it was actually choking. Then it opens and jumps up to 2.1 bar of boost. :dur: :thanks: I like having .5 bar at 3500, then 1.4 or 20 psi at 4k. This is where I baseline spool and it has the PTE 5857 beat by about 150 RPMs, but it's the boost at 3500 that I like. I can also see I need a new EGT probe..

I may have to go log and see where I am. What gear? Dig up the comparo thread and MS paint the new boost profile!

That's third gear
Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
No brake? That is awesome for 3rd gear
Re: Re: Jim Green's 90q 20vt - summer stage
Saweet, that's awesome Jim. Interesting about it choking out, I don't think we really had that problem with dad's. It would make great boost but it would just taper off faster. When we opened it was always a hit or slow in spool. We opened it at 26psi instead of the 20 you're asking of it. I wonder how the HANK++ setup will change things...
ALso... just a thought. You're getting 20psi at 4k, on dad's we were getting 26 at 4k. I think that's pretty good response for dad's turbo+stroker setup. Finally something SOMEWHAT close to compare to! Hank said that 2.2 to 2.6l was worth 600rpm... so 2.3 to 2.5 should be 300 rpm advantage to the stroker with same turbo. Which actually is right in line with your 1.8 bar line - 4300 rpm!!!
