You may be able to cure the variable idle by adjusting the idle mixture. To do it correctly requires adjusting the idle mixture and the idle air screws simultaneously and requires a dwell meter and a digital multimeter.

Does your car have the old style GM climate control? If so then maybe this will help.

FYI you may be able to grind the shims by hand with fine grit wet dry sandpaper against a flat surface. That's how I did the intake shims for the Alfa.

Re: Ben's Maserati Biturbo Spyder
You may want to consider replacing the rubber o-rings that seal the liners to the block now that you have the engine apart. Cheap insurance at this point. FWIW I have only rebuilt an Alfa V6 which uses a similar wet sleeve design but is a one piece block .

Nice project, I have always thought the Biturbo is pretty cool.
Those are cast iron liners correct? Although they are probably pretty well stuck I would still recommend some hold downs like this:
Good Luck!

Have you verified that the check valve isn't crushed? (Just from my own experience of giving machine shops specific instructions only to have them totally ignored.) ARP main studs?

On my 200 the Behr MFTS is the only one that will indicate the correct temperature. Meyle and cheapo Chinese brands will show high temperature, just like you are seeing.

Not sure if this applies since my experience is with an MC2 but do you have an adjustable wastegate? I have experienced similar fuel cut (low rpm, heavy load) when I crank down on the wastegate adjustment bolt in conjunction with using the N75 for boost control. Backing off the wastegate adjustment ...

How is the companies reputation?
I bought the center u-joint from Powertrain Industries a while back after Yodasfro suggested them. I liked talking to someone who actually knows his stuff rather than some drone. And I got a part that actually fit.

I'm fairly certain I've got injector issues going on. There's a certain point that I get to and it feels like it's just pisssssssing fuel, stinks something fierce too. I'll back off a point or two and it'll start popping(lean?). Like literally a point or two..... Every now and then when it shuts ...

Allot of material needed to be removed by hand after boring that Audi exhaust housing in order to create geometry similar to the Volvo exhaust housing. I used a small carbide burr on a Dremel to accomplish this.

Pretty cool that the lower trim strip is available. I called the dealer about it a couple years ago and they said it had been NLA for so long that they don't even have a PN for it anymore.

Are you basing the temp soley on the gauge position? That gauge position in the photo looks completely normal to me.

Be sure to get the Behr MFTS not Meyle or some other off brand. Those will cause the gauge to read higher than the Behr unit.

Yea I hate the AC unit too. The worst thing is the pathetic defrost.
The system works better if you make sure that the vacuum servo under the passenger side dash is functional and the servo mount is not broken.

This is a great thread! These are just a few of the questionable "fixes" to my old red 86' CGT which I drove daily during college and for some years after:

All the MAC ecu's were made by Hitachi and had the internal MAP sensor. I'm pretty sure that thing is just the lambda control unit for normal k-jetronic + lambda. So probably all it does is control the fuel trim.

I "get" the 911. I also get the E30 M3. Cars with soul. I don't really understand the desire for an old z. To me they are somewhat less interesting than American muscle cars. Did you considered any other European marques in your search for the right car?
